Google and Dell have announced a partnership deal that will install Google software on Dell systems, a potential setback for Microsoft.

This agreement between Dell and Google comes after the two firms announced they would install Google's software package on Dell computers in February this year.

The planned deal will be for approximately three years, and Google will pay a fee to incorporate on Dell computers its desktop software, which integrates a number of personal computing applications, the Google tool bar, and co-branded Internet home page.

Presently, Dell and Google are reported to be in talks to install the software on as many as 100 million new Dell PCs, following a bidding process in which Google edged out Microsoft, and Yahoo withdrew.

Announcing this deal, Jess Blackburn, a spokesman for Dell, said that they are doing this because they feel the tools will help the customers search and organize digital information quickly and easily, right out-of-the-box.

Blackburn also said that Dell would start selling Google-equipped PCs to consumers and small and mid-sized businesses, by the end of this month. Besides, the systems will also be offered to some large corporate customers.

On the other hand, Eric Schmidt, chief executive, Google, hinted at the possibility of more to follow in the Google-Dell partnership. He suggested that this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Although the details of the negotiations have not been disclosed, it is learnt that both companies will share in the revenue.

Whereas for Dell, this partnership represents the latest attempt to boost revenues as it continues to struggle against slumping margins and slowing sales; for Google, the move represents a direct challenge to Microsoft, whose suite of software tools have long dominated the PC desktop market.

Ofcourse it is, They are many people, current non computer users who would use the default browser/search home page, without knowing what they are losing out on. Not many people know what Google Pack is, and not many people care to install it. This will just increase the number of Google Pack users so much, till it becomes a standard part of browsing software. Great move google. I wish I could afford to buy your stock,

good to hear... this only starting point to taste of goodness of non M$ tools on M$ OS. If dell includes other great tools like firefox browser that may be good for Dell buyers.
