IMImobile has developed "Talking SMS" that allows mobile users to send voice SMS (in any language) instead of a text SMS.
Close-on-the-heels of the hugely popular VideoTone developed for Nokia, IMImobile, a global end-to-end enabler of mobile Value Added Services (VAS), has developed "Talking SMS" that allows mobile users to send voice SMS instead of a text SMS. What's more, the new service enables mobile subscribers to send messages in the language of their choice.
Launched in association with Tamil Nadu-based Aircel, the latter has already recorded over one crore messages within a span of two weeks.
To avail of the service, subscribers need to dial a number followed by the recipient number. They are directed to an Interactive Voice Response System, wherein users can record a message up to 30 seconds as of now. There is a built-in option for editing messages as well.
The service is not bound by language, and mainly - it promises to allow users send messages reflecting personal emotions unlike in the case of written SMSs.
Bibhu Kumar, vice president - sales and marketing, IMImobile, said that according to Telecom Industry sources, over 50 percent of the country's mobile subscriber base have never sent an SMS since English language penetration is low. Kumar said that "Talking SMS" would come in handy for such users who are not acquainted with using written English.
