Yahoo! has released a translation Web page in Yahoo! Search that brings the service of Babel Fish developed by AltaVista.
The Yahoo! version uses the same technologies that have been used by the version hosted on AltaVista for almost a decade, with some additional features to tie it in with other Yahoo! services.
According to sources, the Yahoo! Babel Fish service is capable of translating up to 150 words at a time, in 38 language combinations along with translating Web site pages.
The available languages are Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, summing-up to 38 possible translation pairs.
Yahoo has also integrated Babel Fish with other services like Yahoo! Search, and into the Yahoo! Toolbar by adding a new button. Other places in the Yahoo! network will provide links to Babel Fish wherever relevant.
Additional features include Yahoo! Search Translator Beta, allowing users to translate queries as also search for Web pages, images, and videos in multiple languages simultaneously.
The new service also includes tighter integration with Yahoo! Services such as Yahoo! Search that can use text translation result to search the Web and Yahoo! Toolbar. This means adding the Babel Fish button to the Yahoo! Toolbar enables one-click translation of Web pages, and the Yahoo! Network that links to Babel Fish from Search Shortcuts, the Yahoo! Services pages, and other pages in the network.
