Kingston Technology has introduced 512-MB microSD expansion memory cards to its existing mobile memory solutions. The company had announced its 256-MB microSD during the Consumer Electronics Show held in January 2006.
According to Kingston the new cards are ideal for both Gen-Now and Gen-Next multi-function mobile phones, that require larger memory to power premium features such as video functionality, high-quality cameras, 3-D gaming and MP3 players.
The 512-MB microSD cards come bundled with a Secure Digital (SD) adapter for use as a full-size SD card. The adapter has a built-in write-protect switch to protect against accidental data loss.
Dave Lee, flash memory product manager - apac business division, Kingston, said, "As multi-function Smartphones gain acceptance in the domestic marketplace, consumers will find content and applications from online mobile portals that they want to own and use on their phones. With today's advanced video compression techniques, for example, a single 512-MB card can hold several full-length movie downloads. And as consumers upgrade their handsets, a 512-MB microSD memory card is ideal for backing up address books, photos, contacts, data files and ringtones."
David Linsalata, research analyst, IDC, said, "From digital music to 3D gaming to TV and video, multimedia is emerging as a clear driver for the future growth of the mobile phone market. Without sufficient storage, however, users will be unable to fully leverage the multimedia-rich, advanced mobile phones now coming to market."
Avnet India, Transtek Infoways, Ingram Micro and AA Infoways are Kingston's distributors within the country.
