According to security firm Sophos' latest report naming the top twelve worst spam relayers of Q1 2006; USA heads the pack with China coming a close second, while Asia is the top spam producing continent with Europe looking in danger of overtaking North America as the second worst spam spewing part of the world.
In the event current trends continue, China appears poised to win the dubious distinction of being the world leader in spam production. As regards continents, Australasia remains well outside the "dirty dozen," with Australia and New Zealand occupying twenty-third and fifty-third positions respectively.
To arrive at the results, Sophos scanned all spam messages received in its global network of spam traps. The report reveals that though USA continues to make significant strides in its efforts to reduce spam, the country still remains the largest spam producer in the world.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant, Sophos, stated that while two years ago the US accounted for over half of all the spam sent to the world, it now accounts for less than a quarter of the total spam sent out.
What seems to have helped the US along the way is legislation such as CAN-SPAM and greater information sharing by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), that has led to the imposition of some really severe penalties for the country's spammers.
As a counter measure against spam, Sophos has advised computer users across the globe to perk-up and put-in-place better defenses so as to prevent their computers from becoming spam-spewing zombies.
Noh mention of India , seems good news for web users ...we dont generate spam its bcoz ppl work here using their pcs, kill time by playin games and educational reasons .
But spam is filtered by Yahoo & Hotmail so why is there outcry over it .
