With the export of its "Made in India" mobile phones from the Manesar plant to Dubai - which is said to be the key telecom market of the Middle East, Samsung Electronics has confirmed its intention of making India an export hub.

Samsung says that mobiles manufactured indigenously will - in the long run - bring down the cost of operations, besides reducing the company's market reaction time.

Within a fortnight of the India plant's official inauguration on March 7, 2006, the company has already begun exporting mobiles, which is a good sign.

India was chosen as the hub because of its strategic location, favorable government polices, skilled manpower and undoubted leadership in software. Samsung intended its "Made in India" handset to showcase the company's India vision.

Speaking at the occasion, H C Ryu, managing director, Samsung Telecommunications India (STI), said, "Middle East is one of the chief growth markets for Samsung, primarily because of lower mobile penetration and higher ARPUs. This sector is also witnessing the wave of liberalization, making the market fiercely competitive. As part of its strategic decision, Samsung will export more of 'Made in India' mobiles to cater to the demand of the Middle East, thereby increasing the company s market share and operating profit."
