Pioneer to Launch Blu-ray Burner

Pioneer Electronics has announced one of the industry's first Blu-ray Disc computer drives.

Pioneer Electronics has announced one of the industry's first Blu-ray Disc computer drives, expected to revolutionize digital and high-definition media storage.

The new Pioneer BDR-101A will utilize shorter wavelength blue lasers in order to store up to 25 gigabytes of information on a single layer Blu-ray Disc. It is expected to begin shipping in the first quarter of 2006.

This first generation product will be targeted primarily at professional users and serious enthusiasts, generally the first to adopt new technology. In particular, content creators will depend on Blu-ray Disc writers to test and evaluate high definition consumer Blu-ray Disc titles during the authoring process before replication. The drive will come equipped with a data recording application to transfer digital files to Blu-ray Discs.

As the market for high definition video camcorders grows, Pioneer believes that users will increasingly rely on the Blu-ray Disc drive to store massive amounts of HD video. A person with a television tuner on his or her personal computer could use the drive to record high definition television shows for later viewing. The drive also will be able to play consumer Blu-ray Disc movie titles on BD-ROM discs and will play and record standard DVD media.

As one of the first products to utilize Blu-ray Disc technology, the drive significantly increases storage capacity, while reducing the number of discs currently needed to back up computer hard drives, digital files and applications.

Andy Parsons, senior vice president, Pioneer Electronics, USA, said, "Storage capacity in a stable medium is critical. A few years ago, no one could imagine needing more storage than available on a CD-R. Yet today, we need multiple DVDs just to back up the numerous photo and video files on our computers. Blu-ray Disc technology fulfils the rapidly growing need for more storage space and Pioneer is proud to be one of the first companies bringing it to market."

The half height BDR-101A Blu-ray Disc/DVD writer will read BD-ROM/R/RE, DVD-ROM/DVD-R/DVD-RW and +R/+RW discs. It offers write speeds of 2X for BD-R/RE, 8X for DVD-R/+R and 4X for DVD-RW/+RW.

Does anbody know the cost of blu-ray disc writer, on a website i fount it to be around $999.99 approximately Rs 45000. Does anybody know about it,s availability in INDIA(if not i'm a BE graduate, last year i had given a general topic seminar in my college on blu-ray disc and recorder. i browsed net for the information, i could really feel the change in technology going around...i'm very glad that things are in fast pace, ALL THE BEST for your efforts, hope to see a new technology grow at the earliest.... whenever i tell people around me abt this blu-ray, they feel that i'm irrelevant, i challenge them to take back their words.... All the writer at least the reader) and at a cheaper Can anyone ever give a life long damage proof guarantee for any other thing in life . No isn't it ?. After all ,these technical innovations are only for the betterment of End Users , who of course are people like us , the enthusiastic PC users . Can u imagine life today without storage. ? Had the CD/DVD Writers not been invented and made available to end users today ,life would be difficult considering the amount of Applicaion Softwares needed to run a PC comfortably , as well as to satisfy our day to day works which require a computer . The Blu-ray Media infact was not intended initially for general PC using Public. Its more for the Film Making Circle, whom ll cherish this innovative thing because a high defintion movie file can be made portable as well be handy when it comes to concept of Storage & Preservation for future. Blu-ray thus was developed initially ,solely for Hollywood circle. But then ,whats the good use putting in all the efforts to invent such marvelous things without making it available to General consumers . Only due to this fact, the Blu -ray discs were finally decided to be shipped to general PC users. So if anyone wants storage medium only for storing their datas , the best suggestion is : Go in for an External Hard Disk Drive . They are handy not only because of their capacity going from 40 GB to 200 GB & so on but also for their prices . They can be bought cheap as they r only priced slightly above the normal internal hard drives here in India also . So i think ,talking about the concept of damage to Blu-ray disks is not worth while here ,which is not guaranteed for any other hardwares we use in life , if at all u intentionally make a scratch or its been damaged enough bhye dude, can u send me own ppt .. as i will like to refer from tht bcz i have decided to gv my seminar on Blu ray y mistake .These Blu- ray medias are highly protected from Scratches and can give a longer life than CD & DVD disks . We cant say anything now unless we put things in Perspective. So wait for Blu-rays .They are the 'High definition ' file Storage media for the future. Report abuseAs a recording studio owner I know the value of stored data and the issue of it being dependable comes to mind. I think that 25 gigs on one disc warrents a sheath like the old floppies had. America has become all about quantity and low quality. I would hold my tongue about any other country. I already have too many disc failures with CD and DVD. I'm curious to see who is willing to bet 25 gigs on one disc. - Good Luck Report abuse
