Yahoo! Integrates RSS Into Email

Yahoo! has announced the introduction of RSS feeds in its new version of Yahoo! Mail, which is currently in beta testing.

Yahoo! has announced the introduction of RSS feeds in its new version of Yahoo! Mail, which is currently in beta testing.

RSS enables users to keep track of their favorite syndicated content from the Web, including Web log feeds and news sites.

With the integration of the RSS reader, Yahoo! Mail will now give consumers access to blog entries, breaking news, and other feeds, directly in their Web mail. Yahoo! Mail will now enable users to save time, while using email or reading Web content; and it will help users bring-together online content from an infinite number of sources, as also forward or file the same.

Yahoo! Mail Beta users can read RSS feeds, by clicking on the new "All Feeds" icon that will automatically aggregate updates/feeds from different sources, into one chronologically ordered digest.

Ethan Diamond, director - product development, Yahoo! Mail, said, "We're expanding upon Yahoo!'s significant leadership in RSS, by integrating it right into the world's most popular Web mail service. By adding feeds to Yahoo! Mail, we will introduce RSS technology to a more expansive consumer base than ever before."

Yahoo! has also launched RSS feed alerts in beta, at http://alerts.yahoo.com, to allow users to keep track of timely updates via their mobile phones, Yahoo! Messenger, or any other e-mail client in use.

The Yahoo! Mail Beta RSS capabilities plus the new Yahoo! Alerts are an example of Yahoo!'s strategy, to expand the RSS platform to include mainstream Internet users.
