Nikon Unveils Six Cameras

Nikon has added six digicams to its existing line up, catering to both amateur and professional photographers.

Photographic equipment maker Nikon has joined a spate of digital camera launches in the year adding six models to its line-up. The range includes two compact cameras for the travel enthusiasts and has technology that would appeal to step-up customers. The range also includes models for everyday users.

The latest releases from the company are the Coolpix 4600, Coolpix 5600 and Coolpix 7600 for consumers; Coolpix 5900 and Coolpix 7900 for step-up or pro-consumers; and the D2Hs - Digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera for professionals.

The 4-Megapixel Coolpix 4600, 5.1-Megapixel Coolpix 5600 and the 7.1-Megapixel Coolpix 7600 are aimed at entry-level photographers. The camera has an in-built quality improving technology, which improves the picture quality while it is in the camera itself. The user need not do it manually on a desktop PC.

Other features include in-camera red-eye fix technology and the D-Lighting feature. The D-lighting feature of the camera ensures automatic compensation for insufficient lighting. The devices are also equipped with blur warning and a unique alert feature that informs the user of a ruined shot due to a handshake. The cameras have a 1.8-inch LCD screen.

The 5.1-Megapixel Nikon Coolpix 5900 and 7.1-Megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7900 compact cameras, with dimensions of 3.5 x 2.4 x 1.4 inch are designed for photographers on the move. The cameras are the first to have a two-inch LCD screen in the Coolpix series. These cameras have a Face-priority AF function that ensure crisp focus when shooting portraits of human faces by sensing the face of the subject within the frame and setting accurate focus accordingly.

Since the camera is within guarentee period, the best thing is to approach the dealer. Before that you may try with brand new Nikon AA rechargeable batteries, to rule out that this is a battery problem. Don't do anything else p[lease. Regards VG

I have Nikon coolpix S4 model. it has problems right from the start. I came to know from web searches that its a problem 'WORLDOVER". Even latest version of the S4 "S10" has the same problem. I think Nikon has biggest problems worldover. just search model no & problem' u guys will come to know. I was a biggest fan of Nikon. but if it takes 3000/- rupees every month to repair nikon then best thing is to dump it in garbage & go for Canon or Sony! I WILL NEVER GO FOR NIKON AGAIN!!!!!!

Try to 'On' it using the play button which is green in color and just above the lcd screen. then u might be able to click photos.

u will have to take it to an authorised service centre, and can be repaired free of cost if under warranty. however, u can still operate your camera.switch on the camera by pressing the "play" button and not the "ON" button. while swithching off only use ON/OFF button on top.so temporary use can be made..but prefer to repair at the earliest.

Capital Electronics at Chowrangi, Kolkata is authorised centre for various cameras. But main difference from grey market is price. Capital takes high price, I think, it is unnecessary. 'Cause, to get service from Capital u have to pay hefty amount of money, but u cann't be sure that u will get ur camera repaired free from complain. So, I suggest, u go to grey market to avail half price and u may throw away the camera in case of any problem and can buy another. U can not blindly rely on Capital for repairing though u will have to pay large amount for repiring.

Hi All, My suggestion for those going to Prerana in Bangalore for Nikon camera repair is "think before you go". I'm not sure about their competency but customer support is very bad in Bangalore. I gave my Nikon Coolpix 2200 camera for repair after water got into it. They charged Rs.5000/- and said it is fixed. When I returned home, I observed it is not working. They said they'll fix it and it's almost a month a now & no response as yet. Everytime I call they say they need some more time but no solution as of now. Hence take care before jumping.

Hi, i had a similar experience with prerna enterprises in bangalore. I think they charge way too much for their service. I had problem with nikon coolpix 5600 after i used it in moist conditions. To me it appeared as if the shutter button was malfunctioning, because it lets me click only one photograph after i turn it on. Anyways i wen to prerna and they quoted a price around Rs 6000 just by looking at it. I think these guys work on commission hence want to get the most out of it. I am now considering sending it to JJ mehta for repairs. Any suggestions?

Prerana Enterprises have a awful customer service reputation and their company doesnt even have a hoarding by their name in Mumbai. It is not only difficult to locate thier shop, but it is more difficult interacting with their staff. Keeping the heirarchy in mind, the manager is the most rude of all !!! . Lucky for me I havent met the Proprietor !!! ( As long as the so called manager isnt the proprietor ) Its best to avoid Prerana for your issues . I find Central Camera staff and technicians much more resourceful

Hi, I have just bought a NIKON COOLPIX 4600. It is indeed a great camera to own. I have read a lot of posts in different sites saying CANON's rival is much better than CP4600, but i never got any opinion by someone who had both the cameras. NIKON was always my first choice in photogreaphy, since they understand the thing better than anyone else. I am more than satisfied with the quality of the picture. I dont use full 4MP resolution, but the normal 4MP one. In that mode, I can shoot more than 150 pics with an additional 128MB SD card. The battery is packed with power and can b used for whole 150 pics at a stretch. Macro mode is also excellent and color is vibrant. There is also a movie recording option, though it cant record sound. The duration of the movie depends on the resolution and the size of your card. Lots of shooting mode is available and the assist modes are great for a newby user. In camera red-eye reduction is there and it also works great. The indoor shooting may be a trouble for the flash but try fill-in flash. I guess all the opinions have this kind of pain shooting in indoor. I have tried it and in extremely low light (Dim light) If you set your flash as fill-in, it could enlighten! your photos. 3x optical zoom works great and there is also 4x digital oom, though it reduces the quality of your pic adding lot of noise. One thing I dislike is the delay between two shots whrn flash is used. The delay is almost 5sec! to recharge the flash. Whats more! Though the body is made by plastic, the model does not look cheap. It is only 130gm (w/o battery) and one of the lightest in its class. Go for it if you are thinking to buy a digicam!

go for 5900. It is much faster than 5600. I personally compared both of them and went for 7900 which is same as 5900 except for pixels.

I had the same exact comment. I used my camera one day and set it on the counter after i changed the batt. and it was there for a few days and i grabbed it to turn it on to take a picture right then and it wouldn't turn on. Nothing at all happened to it because nobody else was there and I didn't touch it since then. Have you found out what the problem is with yours?

This may sound odd but it works! Bang it into the palm of your hand, quite hard but not violently, three or four times. I had the same problem & was advised of this cure & yes it did work!! It's worth a try before paying for repairs!

I am an amateur and love photography and am planning for the best film camera from Nikon which is available in India. I called up a dealer in Bangalore and only F65 and F75 was available. Do we get good service in India if we buy the camera abroad? Cause the dealers in India do not have F6 which is a new release from Nikon.
