Performance
Although the street price of Rs. 4,550/- for this MFD is very attractive, it is the performance, which matters in the end. Let's see if this one performs to our expectations.
Software installation was a breeze. Alignment and cleaning of the cartridge was a straightforward process once you setup the machine.
Printing
We ran our benchmarks, which included a mixture of high-resolution images and text and used Adobe Photoshop 7.0 to print files with resolutions of 300, 600 and 1200 dpi. Prior to printing, we tried to align the cartridge to its best, but the lines did not seem to be perfectly straight and the result was visible in the border test (lines stretching out all the way to the edge of the document, to test the printer's borderless printing capabilities).
Font Test: The font test consisted of printing a document containing various fonts starting from point size 24 going all the way down to point size 1.
Result: The output was very striking, as the smallest font was visible to the naked eye.
Black and White Resolution Test: We printed an EIA Resolution chart (1956), containing high-contrast vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines as well as curves of various sizes.
Result: The result was way off-target with numbers blurred completely. Straight lines and circles were again, not aligned. Also, the gray-color to be produced gave a purple-look, which was very strange.
Color Test: We printed a sheet with gradients of RGB and CMYK bands, which start from the darkest shade to the lightest, eventually fading to white.
Result: Compared to the other MFDs, this one gave really extreme red results, while the blue and green was satisfactory. Fading from dark to white was also good, but black did not seem to be perfect enough.
Resolution Test
300 dpi Image Test: We printed a 300 dpi image with minute details and varying colors.
Result: Color reproduction was quite accurate with a lot of sharpness and depth in the colors, but a shade dark in certain areas.
Time Taken: 5 Minutes 25 seconds
600 dpi Image Test: Almost identical to the 300 dpi test; but with lot more textures, sharpness, depth and colors.
Result: To be honest, the results were very impressive with sharpness pinpointed to accuracy and color variation clearly visible. There were no grainy spots anywhere on the image.
Time Taken: 11 Minutes
