Google has launched "Google Talk", its instant messaging program, which reportedly will unify the world of on-line chat.
Rumours flew thick and fast as Google launched "Google Talk", its instant messaging program, which the company claims is designed to unify the fragmented world of on-line chat.
"Google Talk" aims at creating an inter-operable, instant messaging world, wherein users are not restricted to chatting within the same network.
Sources reveal, that "Google Talk" is based on open-source technology and that software such as Jabber and Trillian will enable users of different networks to connect with each other.
Reportedly, "Google Talk" works by means of a simple pop-up box, which initiates exchange of text messages and telephone calls to computers having microphones and speakers.
Users of this new IM service can chat with or message each other, while they are engaged in brain-storming or on-line game sessions.
It is believed, that "Google Talk" is one more attempt by Google, to transform itself from a search engine to a full-fledged portal.
However, Google's latest off-spring is likely to face tough competition from Yahoo, MSN and AOL, who are touted as pioneers in the instant messaging domain.
its the best for voice chat.....yahoo and hotmail voice chat SIMPLY SUCK!!........
Gmail Talk is as good as a phone line..(off course with a good broadband connection both sides).....
The only thing is...the connection takes a little time to stablize...but then its free talk! :-)
Hi, R u using voice with broadband? Can it be used with phone connections? Is this (VOIP, that is) legal within India? Very basic questions, I know...!!!
It will work with a dial-up internet connection, but probably not very well. VOIP is just using the internet to send your voice to someone else, I'm not an expert in Indian law, but I can't imagine it would be illegal, and even if it was, it would be extremely hard to enforce.
