Reliance Infocomm has announced the IC3 (Internet and Computing Core Certification) program, a new e-learning initiative on the Reliance WebWorld platform.

WebWorld, along with India Cyber Learning, will offer IC3, a globally validated, standards-based training and certification program for measuring computing and Internet skills, across 240 stores in 104 Indian cities.

The course has been priced at Rs. 2,999 with 42 hours broadband Internet access that can be used at any of the WebWorlds.

Kiran Karnik, president, Nasscom, said, "I am delighted to launch IC3, which is a globally recognized program for Internet and computer skills. Such a program will greatly help in widening computer-literacy and creating a computer culture which is one of the many ways Nasscom is trying to speed up economic growth in our growing digital economy".

Karnik also launched a specially designed, pre-paid Education Card for the IC3 program. The card can also be given away as an education gift.

Sarup Chowdhary, CEO, Reliance WebWorld, said, "E-learning at Reliance WebWorlds uses technology to make distance learning and training effective, participative and exciting. The IC3 online preparatory courseware and certification examination are part of this initiative. This is for the first time that such a course is being offered in India".

"The launch of our e-Learning initiative in India with Reliance WebWorld, is our first step towards bridging the digital divide in the country", said Pankaj Rai, CEO, India CyberLearning.

The IC3 program is a 42-hour online preparatory course for the IC certification conducted by Certiport, USA.

Well, I really like this new IC3 project offered by Reliance webworld. Also I've noticed there are so many private centres offering this sort of services but yours are unique. NOW just tell me when do you have a plan to start your centre in my city as I am so much keen to gain it. I am engaged with such a profession that often needs to use this type of web platform. That's why my humble appeal you to do it as quick as possible. I can personally make you full favor in launching the centre in my city. Kindly Regards. From Pratish Thaker (B.E ~ I/C; Jyotish Ratnam).

What marketable skills will the IC3 (Internet and Computing Core Certification) program give me ? I mean the type of skills I can sell in the employment marketplace for money. I know exactly what it will get Reliance and Centiport USA i.e. Rs.2999/- a pop. Who is Certiport, USA. and what makes them special so that I'm sure that their training material and methodologies will fit the Indian employment environment where I have to survive today ? Anyone with any answers out in Cyberspace ? OR am I just contributing to the wealth of both Reliance and Centiport while acquiring certification and (perhaps) knowledge that I cannot use anywhere here in India.

I dont think that course is of any use to you. I mean anybody who can already use computers & internet does not require this course. This is for persons who are computer illiterate and I think its a good initiative as users will get hands on experience of what a fast internet really means. As most of the computer institutes normally chage same or even more for same type of course but seldom they offer a good internet exposure.

Now its Anil's time to cash in "Mere Baap ka sapna, knowledge mein bhi loot lo kyuki sabka maal apna". US Based certification will only be useful in places like Uganda
