After launching "Hello Tunes" service in Delhi and Karnataka in July, AirTel has announced the launch of the Ring back tone service in the Mumbai circle.

Ring back tone service is a personalized mobile music service where the caller hears songs and other sound clips instead of the conventional switchboard tone. The service has the ability to differentiate various call conditions like user busy, no answer, phone unreachable, phone switch off and call forwarding.

To access the personalized service, a customer needs to dial "678" and then choose a hit song, a sound clip, a joke etc. The chosen tone can then be assigned to specific callers and / or for all callers. The service can be (de) provisioned by the customer himself.

The Hello Tune service comes with a rental of Rs. 30 per month. The service is also backed with content including the latest Hindi and English songs priced at Rs. 15 per download.

Announcing the launch of the service, Mr. Jayant Khosla, Chief Executive Officer, Bharti Cellular Ltd, Mumbai Circle said, "We have been overwhelmed with hundreds of thousands of requests for ring back tones ever since it was launched in Delhi. We are starting this innovative service in Mumbai with our postpaid customers and will soon extend it to prepaid customers as well."

In countries like South Korea, Philippines & Thailand, the Ring Back Tone service has gained immense popularity. Looking especially at the South Korean example, the service contributes three times more revenue than other services like download of ring tones and wallpapers.
