The Scanner
Now for the good part, as disappointing as the printer was, the scanner surprised us with its scan quality and attention to detail. We ran various tests on it like scanning currency of different denominations, scanning high quality prints and professionally taken studio photos.
At 300 dpi and 600 dpi, the results were near flawless with great attention to detail. At 1200 dpi too the results showed all the minutes lines and details we were looking for except that these details were not as sharp as we would have liked them. In the currency scan the lines that make up Gandhi's face were all there, but were slightly dithered and blurred at places.
The scan speed was surprisingly fast. It scanned an A4 sized high-quality printed sheet at 600 dpi in just 160 seconds. The lower the resolutions, the higher the speeds went.
In all, the scanner aspect of the MFD is quite commendable and is the straight out plus point of the unit.
Conclusion
The Lexmark X1150 is available for Rs. 4,850 at your local dealer. The black ink cartridge will cost you Rs. 800 and the color cartridge will come for Rs. 900. Doesn't sound like too much in the short run, but with the cost per page being Rs. 9.98 and the print quality you get, it may be a tad too much. There's no doubt that the scanner is the highlight of the unit. The bottom-line is that if print quality and speed isn't such a big issue for you and you need an MFD that does not cost too much initially, then this might just be the thing for you. Everyone else is suggested to look at their other options.
