A whole new range of affordable digital cameras has hit the Indian market this year, capitalizing on the festive season. Canon, FujiFilm, Casio, Nikon, Kodak and Sony will be launching cameras by the handful across the festive season between Diwali and New Year.

As Entry level digital cameras fall below the 10,000 rupee barrier, the market for digital cameras has grown by 100% this year. The market for digital cameras is still dominated by the grey market, which sells these cameras at a cheaper rate than the retail channels.
Dealers who buy from independent importers quote prices of cameras at about 75 per cent of that quoted by licensed importers. You can buy some of the lower end Kodak cameras for around Rs 8,000.

Jindal Photo Films, which is an exclusive partner of Fuji Corporation of Japan, will release 10 new FujiFilm digital cameras in India this year. The price range for these start from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 1.45 lakh. Canon will be launching five models, to their portfolio which already includes 11 cameras. The price range will start from Rs 17,995 up to Rs 7.5 lakh.
