Browsing Add-ons:

Bonzi Buddy: This chimp is NOT your friend, he may be pretty cute, but he's a rapist and a child molester.

Comet Cursor: A "cursor enhancer", which is actually spyware.

DownloadWare: A "download manager", which also monitors your browsing habits, and may install other software without permission. Related to "Network Essentials" and "MediaLoads".

eAcceleration: Also known as the eAnthology package, which includes Stop-Sign and others, this vast suite of junkware apps claims to include its own anti-spyware tools (which mark Spybot and Adaware as dangerous) and its own pop-up blocker (which doesn't block its own ads, of course). Stay away from this.

Of course, there are lots more, and newer versions of malware keep coming up. An extensive list of spyware/malware/parasites can be found at
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/
A larger but less detailed list can be found in Spybot's database at
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=knowledgebase/threats

Removal:
The best tool for spyware removal as of now is Spybot. While installing, click on the "Online" button on the left-hand side, and click on "Search for Updates". Select all of the updates available and click on "Download Updates". It may take a while for the download to complete (since the servers are usually pretty busy), and SpyBot may restart after the downloads are installed. Scan and remove all the malicious programs you can find with Spybot.

You can download spybot from: http://security.kolla.de/

Guys If You are Looking for a good P2P software which is harmless, features a good search & cool, Go for WinMX. Its just a 732 KB download and impressive album download feature. Far Better than that of Kazaa. Kazaa is only good for single downloads. But WinMX is the Album Champ.

Nothing beats PopupCop as a blocker for popup ads. The new version of the Google Toolbar for IE also includes a pretty good pop-up ad blocker

Using alternate browsers like Mozilla Firebird which let you block pop-ups is a good solution

AdAware has never failed me. They also release updates constantly. I have never tried out Spybot. Will do sometime. Thanks for letting the guys know about the dangers of Spy/Mal/Adware. Keep up the good work :)

If I'm not mistaken, it is some application such as the ones described in this section that give out info about your system without your knowing it, i.e. every time you connect to the Net. This can be prevented by the use of a firewall. Hope this helps.

I try to be careful, BUT... I have some IE Toolbars that I can't seem to get get rid of. Can you tell me where to look for these little "darlings" to get rid of them? (is it Windows, Program Files, the Registry ??) I appreciate any help. Thank you, in advance, Gary
