LimeWire: Similar to Kazaa. LimeWire needs an install of the Sun Java Runtime Environment to work; while the JRE is harmless, the add-on software that comes with LiveWire is not.
Known spyware infections from Limewire:
SaveNow
LimeShop

BearShare and iMesh:
These Kazaa P2P clones are known to infect the user with popup advertising and monitoring tools.
Known spyware infections:
TopText
IPInsight

The following file-sharing apps are safe: KaZaa Lite, DC++, EmulePlus.

Guys If You are Looking for a good P2P software which is harmless, features a good search & cool, Go for WinMX. Its just a 732 KB download and impressive album download feature. Far Better than that of Kazaa. Kazaa is only good for single downloads. But WinMX is the Album Champ.

Nothing beats PopupCop as a blocker for popup ads. The new version of the Google Toolbar for IE also includes a pretty good pop-up ad blocker

Using alternate browsers like Mozilla Firebird which let you block pop-ups is a good solution

AdAware has never failed me. They also release updates constantly. I have never tried out Spybot. Will do sometime. Thanks for letting the guys know about the dangers of Spy/Mal/Adware. Keep up the good work :)

If I'm not mistaken, it is some application such as the ones described in this section that give out info about your system without your knowing it, i.e. every time you connect to the Net. This can be prevented by the use of a firewall. Hope this helps.

I try to be careful, BUT... I have some IE Toolbars that I can't seem to get get rid of. Can you tell me where to look for these little "darlings" to get rid of them? (is it Windows, Program Files, the Registry ??) I appreciate any help. Thank you, in advance, Gary
