When looking to buy a good midrange gaming PC, the most favorable budget for majority of the gamers seems to be Rs 50,000. Incidentally, I have spotted a few good deals on certain components that are fit to be a part of this machine. So let's check out what's the best machine we can build for that much of dough this month.
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Rs 7,500)
There haven't been too many changes in the prices of CPUs. And thankfully the Socket-939 Athlon 64 3000+ is still readily available. For that price, I can't think of a better CPU to invest in for this PC. Its core runs at 1.8 GHz and has 128 KB L1 and 512 KB L2 cache along with a HyperTransport bus running at 2 GHz and an integrated DDR memory controller that supports dual channel DDR RAM. This theoretically doubles the memory bandwidth as compared to that of the Single channel, Socket 754 platform.
However there has been one change since I last recommended this CPU. The Athlon 64 3000+ CPUs are now available with the newer Venice core with integrated SSE3 instruction set and a few more tweaks. And they are known to be good overclockers too.

Motherboard: FoxConn Winfast NF4UK8AA-8EKRS (Rs 4,950)
A new motherboard makes its entry into our PC guides. Finally, we have a well priced motherboard based on nVidia's nForce 4 Ultra chipset, thanks to Foxconn. The NF4UK8AA-8EKRS is a full ATX board with up-to-date specifications that include a 16X PCI Express slot, two 1X PCI-E slots, 4 standard PCI slots, Dual Channel Memory support, SATA RAID, Firewire, USB 2.0 and a lot more. It seems like a complete package and as we know, the nForce 4 Ultra is one of the best Athlon 64 platforms around. And all this for an attractive price of Rs 4,950. This CPU + Mobo combo hits the sweet spot to perfection.

Memory: Transcend 2 x 512 MB DDR-400 RAM (Rs 5,000)
The games these days demand more and more RAM and this is the right time to meet their demand. The price of RAM are at their all time low and this is the right time to throw in a GB of RAM. And since the CPU/Mobo combo supports dual channel memory, use two sticks of 512 MB DDR-400 RAM. Transcend would be our preferred choice of memory brand.
