A lot of people are looking for a phone that does everything but doesn't cost too much. Generally they wouldn't want to spend more than 5-6k on a new phone. Here is a selection of a few phones that are under 5k (and some that are just marginally higher) that give you the most bang for your buck and don't suck.

LG G1600 - Rs. 4650
A dual-band GSM/GPRS (900/1800) handset that's 10.4 cm high, 4.4cm wide, 1.7cm thick and weighs 83g. It has a 65k color STN display with a 128x128 resolution. The phone has around 1.1mb of shared memory, and stores upto 200 phonebook entries with 6 fields each, apart from the ones in the SIM card. Also, it can store upto 100 SMS messages in the phone memory. It supports Java and has two games - Space Ball and Submarine. Supports WAP 1.2.1, GPRS Class 10 and MMS. The phone has a 950 mAh Li-Ion battery that offers upto 2.5 hours of talk and upto 250 hours of stand by time. This is a Bill/Warranty price, so you may be able to get it for cheaper.

Nokia 2600 - Rs. Rs. 4500
Probably the most attractive Nokia you can buy at this price today. Not exactly too small at 10.8cm by 4.6cm and 2.1cm thick, it also weighs close to 96gm. The 2600 is a dual-band GSM (900/1800) handset. There's no GPRS support and hence no MMS either. It has a 128x128 pixel display showing upto 4096 colors and a Series 40 UI. It comes with a built-in handsfree speakerphone function. It has three games - Mobile Soccer, Bounce, and Nature Park. It's 900 mAh BL-5C Li-Ion battery upto 3.30 hours of talk time or upto 250 hours of stand by. This is today's street price for the phone.

Nokia 3120 - Rs. 5400
The 3120 is a very sleek tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900) handset. It is 10.2cm high, 4.2cm wide, 1.94cm thick and weighs 84gm. It has a basic display at 128x128 and 4096 colors, once again a Series 40 UI. This phone supports GPRS and MMS as well, and includes features to scale large size images down to an MMS-capable size. It supports Java and comes with games like Snake EX2, Beach Rally and Nature Park. It has LEDs that light up when the phone rings and a rhythmic backlight alert. The 3120's BR-5C Li-Ion at 820 mAh offers upto 6 hours of talk time and 410 hours of stand by time.
