Apple, has upgraded its Power Mac G5 desktop series with faster processors and increased memory capacity.
Apple, has launched an upgraded model of its Power Mac G5 desktop series.
The G5 line has featured 64-bit processors for around two years. Apple claims the new systems have a 128-bit memory architecture that can support up to 8GB of 400MHz DDR SDRAM and a graphics card with 256MB video memory.
The Power Mac G5 offers 2.0GHz, 2.3GHz and 2.7GHz dual-processor models, each with an independent 1.35GHz front-side bus for bandwidth of up to 21.6GBps, the company said.
The computer that supports Apple's 30-inch cinema high-definition display, comes with a 250GB hard drive and starts at " 1,999.
Apple stated that lower-end systems with a single 1.8GHz G5 processor and a 80GB hard drive will be priced at " 999.
These computers will be due this weekend will come with Apple s latest operating system, the Tiger. The 16x SuperDrive built into every dual-processor Power Mac G5 now supports double-layer (DVD+R DL) discs that can burn up to 8.5GB on a single DVD.
All of them come with one FireWire 800 port, two FireWire 400 ports, three PCI expansion slots, three USB 2.0 ports, analog audio in, analog audio out, optical S/PDIF in, optical S/PDIF out, front headphone and speaker jack and built-in Gigabit Ethernet. These systems are liquid cooled.
I'm not much of a Mac geek, but it surely sounds a bit complicated for an end user to read these technical details. A Windows based system is extremely easy to decipher, but appeal wise, Apple seems to hold on its own. Adding to its gorgeous looks, is a wide variety of affordable components and a much more user friendly OS than expected. No wonder Apple is so popular amongst mainstream users in the West.
