Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reduced the ceiling tariff for different broadband capacities by 3 - 70%.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in an attempt to increase competition in the bandwidth market and promote broadband penetration has reduced the ceiling tariff for different capacities by 3 - 70 percent.
The authority has reduced ceiling tariff for 64 kbps, 128 kbps, 256 kbps by 54 percent to Rs 0.44 lakh, Rs 0.79 lakh and Rs 1.36 lakh compared to the existing market rate of Rs 0.96 lakh, Rs 1.72 lakh and Rs 2.97 lakh respectively. While the revised ceiling tariff for E1 (2 Mbps) has been cut 3 percent to Rs 8.50 lakh from the market rate of Rs 8.80 lakh.
Tariff for DS-3 (45 Mbps) has been reduced 67 per cent at Rs 62 lakh compared to the existing market rate of Rs 185 lakh while for STM-1 (155 Mbps) category, the tariff has been cut 70 percent at Rs 165 lakh from the existing market rate of Rs 554 lakh.
The revised ceiling tariff will take effect from May 1, 2005.
While rapid technological advances have sharply reduced the unit cost of bandwidth, the reduction witnessed in the leased line tariffs has not been proportionate with the reduction witnessed in the cost of providing the services.
The reduction in the tariff for leased circuits seen in the market is largely restricted to selective routes and in selective capacities. The Authority also found that a competitively priced DLC Service is necessary to achieve a higher rate of penetration of broadband in the country.
Well...Ok guyz noe need to get happy, because what i have read in the paperis that this will not reduce the proce of braod band connection to the end user but the major area where this is going to affect is the no the cities but the remote areas of the country.......It will help isps going in the inner areas of state. .....Regarding the bsnl broad band connection.. i have been using it since the past 15 days and it good. I almost donwloaded 2Gb. So far so good.Well till this july we have dont have any limits. And what i personally feel is they will be removing this limit after july because if they dont every body is going to dump them.
I think India should introduce Wi-Max since that is far better than broadband and there are no cable wirings involved in it, as fast as possible.......Today itself....Find out more about Wi-max on search engines for yourself......and u would agree that east or west wi-max is the best.
Actually limiting the downloads are a problem for many of us. I hope with these revied rates we will be able to gain a bit more from our ISPs. 1 GB is may be good option for a normal person, but like me and more crazzzy then me I think 10GB can be reached-consumed without breaking a sweat and then we r talking big amounts. So Companies should do something about it. Agree that night plans from amny are good but then its as I said limiting. Paying 25K or 40K for annual unlimited is way too much.
So many confusing terms. The TRAI has only fixed the ceiling for the physical leased line.
It has not fixed ceiling for the internet bandwidth. Can the Techtree give appropriate titles to their articles. As suggested by someboy can techtree list out the cost involved in getting a leased line and leased internet bandwidth for an end user/customer? And why TRAI has not come out with a cap for internet bandwidth prices? Am I missing something?
yeah what does that imply to us
I may be asking you to do too much but really if you or someone in tech tree could actually do some research and find out what all the major isp would be gaining from this.
For eg calculate what they pay p.m. or p.a.
and reduce the % given above and then look up how many customers they have and give an approximate reduction in the prices that they could offer if they were to directly pass on this benifit over to the consumer
I think that will be a great hit and it would educate the consumer which will force the isps to pass on reductions like these to thier consumers
What does that imply, to the end consumer? TT should do a little more than publish a press release at least with important news as this, TT could have listed a breakdown for the end consumer and list how much would the end consumer would benefit from it.
At presend BSNL has good speed but it give only 1 GB Ddownload, isan't it really funny, 1 GB is pathatic, just 2-3 demo games and nmral video conferencing consume more then 1 GB, Listen BSNL 1 GB download lomit for more then 500 rs. (add damm 10.2 % service tax also cost much)
whats the use???The TATA's(VSNL) will stick their a** in this too and this order will also be put in abeyance...All people at tatas are su**ers big time. ** Message edited by moderator **
Yeah, very rightly put -- If Govt services decide to compete with the cablewallas, I'm sure they will come down to their knees and will have no option but to reduce THEIR "Share" of YOUR connection :D
