Promises home delivery within a week, with cash-on-delivery.
Good news for those seeking the Aakash tablet. You no longer have to kidnap some snotty kid to own one. A whole two months after its official launch, the tablet is now open for all to purchase through its own website. The manufacturer, DataWind, has priced the retail version at Rs 2500. All you need to do is fill up an online form, following which the tablet will be shipped to your residence. Delivery has been promised in under a week, with the convenience and safety of a cash-on-delivery mode of payment.
If you are too cool for the 366 MHz, Android 2.2 equipped Aakash, you might want to wait for the UbiSlate 7, which is touted to be the upgraded version of the cheap tablet. For Rs 500 more you get a 700 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, Android 2.3, 3200 mAh battery, and GPRS connectivity, in addititon to using it as a phone. The UbiSlate is pegged to be available by January-end. Going by the spec-sheet, this just might be the best Rs 500 upgrade you ever get.
