    TRAI Relents, Okays 200 SMSes Per Day

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has agreed to ease the restrictions on the number of SMSes sent per SIM to 200 per day. The decision was announced yesterday because of a growing number of requests to increase the number of text messages allowed per day from various quarters including mobile service providers and users.

TRAI said in a statement issued yesterday, "The authority has received representations from some service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM. The authority has decided to increase the limit". TRAI had clamped the restrictions to 100 SMSes per SIM per day starting September 27 to curb unsolicited text messages from tele-marketing companies. While this has seemingly caused a huge uproar from mobile users as was expected, our Opinion Poll about the effects of this restriction after a month of it coming into effect painted an entirely different picture. The poll showed that most people (59%) are actually not bothered by this restriction, followed by 28% being affected badly, while 14% stated to be somewhat affected.

@ TT Team: Please let me know if you have ever conducted a poll about your users age group who visit your site. If not, please do it once. I 't think people who are mostly s/w professionals, tecxh enthusiasts will visit your sites regularly. Working people will definitely don't bother about such 100 SMS restrictions. Hoestly, I wonder if they really get time to make use of even that 100 SMS :). That may be one reason you got such results. I might be wrong in my thoughts. But just sharing my opinion.
