India seems to be gearing up for a tablet war as iBall has jumped into the fray and launched the Slide tablet. The company is the latest entrant after several companies including RCom, Beetel, and Mercury have launched tablets in quick succession.

The iBall Slide runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is powered by a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor. It sports a 7" capacitive multi-touch screen with a front-facing 2 MP camera. The inbuilt memory is 8 GB, while you can add 32 GB externally via a microSD card. It has a USB port with USB host functionality, and an HDMI port that transfers the display to a bigger screen. Connectivity is available by means of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G using an external dongle that can be bought separately. Its 4400 mAh Li-ion battery claims to provide battery backup for 6.5 hours of music and 5 hours of video.

The iBall Slide is available for a rather hefty price of Rs 13,995, and we are not surprised because the company has to recover the huge money spent on having Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan as the brand ambassador.

why dont these IT companies realize that, their customer buys the product only for their quality, not because of some ambassador.. damn, wasting their money..

actually, its not everyone who is bothered about whats under the hood. like girls who buy vaio laptops bcos of kareena's trendy ads where no mention of hardware is there or people who buy iphones.

well thats also a Sony product where the quality is normally unquestioned. iball kinda tablets my worry is the software upgrades. iball is like a cheap imitation of a logitech or maybe an intex or Amkette. the worry is Android 2.3.4 is now out, which supports video calling using google talk, is iball really going to update the tablet. what kind of software support do they really have. when 3.1 comes out later this year, will they ever update? im not sure...

Is the pricing that bad?? Its 1K more than Reliance tab which has native 3G support but 800 meg processor. This one is a 1 gig model with HDMI out. When prices drop by year end as usual, it might be worth considering...
