Hint dropped after MS registered Microsoft-Sony domain name.
In a move that may surprise many, Microsoft has registered two domain names earlier this month: Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com, hinting at a possible alliance between the two in the near future. No official statement has been made about this by either of the companies, who are the biggest rivals manufacturing gaming consoles.
Media gurus are already speculating several possible scenarios. One such speculation is about a future with a single console taking the best of both worlds (Xbox and PlayStation), with cross-platform compatibility. Yet another though outrageous and unlikely rumour is that Microsoft might have bought Sony. A possibility about Sony and Microsoft collaborating to start a line of smartphones running Windows Phone 7 is also being conjectured.
However, according to a Tweet from Microsoft Corporate Communications VP, Frank Shaw, this is just a "defensive domain name hold".
He did not specify what he meant by "defensive", though, leaving it to our imagination. We really won't know until something comes from either of the companies involved.
