May release this weekend; carrier-locked version will reportedly be cheaper than the unlocked one.
Last week we had picked up rumours hinting that the iPhone 4 will release within this week. In addition to a relatively early Indian debut, it was also rumoured to be launched unlocked and untethered to any carrier. Apple India, as expected, refused to confirm or deny this development. The rumour mills are in overdrive, as we now have come across specific dates and pricing for the release.
The latest word out there is that Apple's flagship phone will be sold in both locked as well as unlocked variants. A version of the iPhone 4 locked to Aircel and Airtel is expected to be priced lower than the factory unlocked version. We have been told that the release date will be around the 28th. The unlocked phones will reportedly be priced at Rs 37,500 for the 16 GB version, while the 32 GB will cost over Rs 40,000. No idea yet on how cheaper the carrier-locked phones will be.
CONFIRMED
IPhone 4 launching on 26 May midnight in india.
Gotta a call from one of the service provider. Pricing details will also be revealed on the same day.
So how come techtree didn't break the news or carry anything about the iPhone confirming its launch on May 27 or even the Aircel rates. What about Samusng Galaxy S2? How did you guys miss that launch?
Hey, did anyone notice that Sameer from Mumbai read the word 'therapist' as 'the rapist'? He could have interpreted my handle as 'therapist' (a healer), but he chose to twist the word into rape instead. Sameer, I humbly submit that you're only projecting the deepest desires from the darkest recesses of your psyche. Who could have thought that something as innocuous as my handle would turn out to be a disturbing Rorschach test.
Will someone please explain to me why we Indians have to pay the price of an unlocked handset to own an iPhone which will be locked to the carrier. In the US the same phones are available, locked to their respective operators for Rs.9000($199) and Rs.13500($299). It's day light robbery by the Airtel and Aircel. If the argument is they are giving money back, then the cost of the plan is inflated. Someone has to take these guys to consumer court.
Um....It seems kind of pointless debating about the cost of I Phone 4 when the next gen model is underway and in the "Coming Up Next" segment, innit??..While people and tech blogs all around are debating over the newer versions spec sheet, we're here debating how much an out of date phone is gonna burn our pockets!!...
Guys, stop confusing ppl...
title says .. "unlocked version will reportedly be cheaper than the carrier-locked one."
But the actual contents is "iPhone 4 locked to Aircel and Airtel is expected to be priced lower than the factory unlocked version."
locked IPhone will be expensive over long term because u will be locked for at-least 2 years with carrier , u will have to take a data plan with it , this data plan will bleed u . best example is I pad in US , where u pay less upfront & u r locked for 2 years with expansive data plan which after few months of hype u will use less of it , well in fact locked cell will cost u double related to unlocked .
locked version will be expensive over a longer period as it is case with US because the locked period will be of 2 years and 1 will have to take some data plan & u will have to stick with that plan for 2 years . Unlocked will be cheaper . Take IPAD upfront money paid is low , what bleeds is the data plan which 1 has to take $ 25 into 24 months , calculate it
this is the second time that such an article based on baseless false rumours has been published on techtree. this much-respected website seems to be going to the dogs. wonder if it even has any editor
