At the on-going MIX11 event in Las Vegas, Microsoft showed off the new Kinect for Windows SDK. Microsoft Kinect Sensor for Xbox 360 is based on motion sensor technology and is meant to be used with game consoles for controller free gaming. Finally, Microsoft promised that the Kinect for Windows SDK would be available later this year for researchers and enthusiasts. Specifically for Windows, the Kinect Sensor will support "robust skeletal tracking".

Kinect for Windows SDK aims to bring in motion sensing based applications and usages. Microsoft said that academicians and enthusiasts would be able to write Kinect Apps using Visual Basic, C# and C++ programming languages.

For Windows PC, Kinect Sensor tracks the skeleton image of two people moving in Kinect field of view, thanks to the new Robust Skeletal Tracking. Apps developers would be able to enjoy a deeper integration of the APIs for making best of the Live Tiles.

To keep up with the competition, Microsoft will allow developers to tweak and make the best of Advanced Audio Capabilities through the four-element microphone array and also tap the potential in Windows speech recognition API included in Kinect for Windows.

Interested developers can register themselves here and the SDK will be available for download from May 16.
