Nokia, at a UK-based event, formally launched the much anticipated X7 smartphone. The new Nokia X7-00 features a large 4-inch AMOLED display made with Corning Gorilla Glass technology. Apparently, it looks like a cross between the N8 and E7. Yesterday we spotted a video of Nokia X7 being demoed for Three, British Mobile Operator. The X7-00 will remain Three exclusive in UK. Nokia will offer X7-00 in Dark Steel and Silver Steel colors.

The New Nokia X7 has a 4-inch AMOLED display that supports 16:9 nHD 640x360 pixel resolution. Under the hood it houses a 680MHz ARM11 processor which seems to be the same one used in the N8 and E7. Weighing 146 grams, the new X7 is just 11.9 mm thick. It comes with 8GB memory card included and has expansion slot that can carry up to 32GB microSD.

With Nokia X7, the company also introduced the next version of Symbian updated dubbed as Symbian Anna, which was previously referred as PR2. Nokia will release Symbian Anna for N8, C7, C6-01 and E7 in the coming months. The new Symbian Anna update brings fresh set of icons with rounded corners, portrait QWERTY input, better browser, better Ovi Maps, and other enhancements.

The major focus of the Nokia X7-00 is its entertainment and gaming aspect. This new X7-00 supports the usual audio formats with up to 320 kbps Bit rate and also has Stereo FM radio. Apart from that the on-board graphics supports OpenGL 2.0 that enables 3D graphics and thus games are enjoyable with the help of accelerometer.

(in reply to Deepak), y do you need a 1 ghz powered symbian handset?? for your information, nokia is holding a world record of running most number of applications in background (multitasking) with a 600mhz powered device...and i mean not even a android with 1ghz or greater processor came close to it....... android operating system is a power hungry operating system and needs 1ghz processor to run smoothly on a device.......for better experience, use a android device which has 600mhz processor, u will know it.........

With a 600mz Symbian lags, pathetic web browser performance, navigating in the phone is slow. So put a 1ghz processor n tat will make the diff, at least it can stand up with android in terms of speed. Using a 600mz processor for Symbian phones is like 2 years back. now when they come up with new updates regularly 1ghz processor will be required, else making the phone unusable.

See 680mhz ia good enough for S^3 but it stll feels little slow. 1ghz chip with 512mb ram can permanently solve this lag issue. If nokia ever decide to launch something like N8-01 with ClearBlack display, 1ghz chip & 512 mb ram then I'll buy it immediately....trust me!

@Aditya Android has good UI but still it is a poor man's wanabe IPHONE. I would rate the windows interface much higher than that of Android and the only serious competitor to iphone because it gives a seamless unique user experience. Functionally Symbian is still the best OS right now, just getting killed because of its UI, Nokia phone have much higher bang for the buck that any of its counterpart. @Rahul agree with you completely, and whats the obsessions with how many apps in the app store..how many will people will acually ever use it...people generally use 5 - 6 apps regularly and the popular ones are already available in Nokia. Been using Socially and Situations for the last couple of days, excellent apps.

Specs aside, this phone looks plain ugly! I wonder what they had in mind when they designed the phone. If the camera does not autofocus then it really is letting us down.

what?not even 1ghz processor.leave aside all other specs.if the engine itself is so underpowered, how will one benefit fully/appreciably from all the latest/upgraded features/os?oh nokia, when will you learn and heed the call of the market voices.when?

Now-a-days 680mhz & 256mb ram is nothing. I'm not a symbian hatter but atleast Nokia should give us phones with 1ghz chip, 512mb ram & not to forget Autofocus camera. S^3 is quite ok with 680mhz but stills its better to hv some more in reserve for flawless hd file playback.

I hate how the Symbian-haters on all blogs mindlessly hate symbian and as a direct consequence despise Nokia. People do not seem to realise that Nokia offers world class hardware. Nokia was the first OEM to feature a pentaband 3G chipset on phones. This was later imitated by the so-called "worldphones". Many phones even today do not come with the pentaband chipset. Talk about worldwide roaming! N8 was the first commercial phone to feature USB on the go. Till date, We are yet to see other phones with that incredible feature. I will not even begin talking about the cameras- they are a class apart. HDMI mirroring, 3.5mm jack A/V output, there are so many unique features. People don't realise that the OS hops along on a 680MHz processor and 256MB ram-n when contemporary android handsets sport 1GHz or more with a gig of ram. The performance of appications (browser, games, flash) are all very much in the same league as android. Multitasking is par excellent. Not once have I seen a force closing of any application on my N8. This is a testament to the fact that Symbian is a heavily optimised OS and very light on resources. Hardware-wise, Nokia is the one to beat. They offer the best hardware in a stunning and sleek design. Coming to software-Symbian- What can it not do that, say Android can? I would love to hear. Apps, you say? 40000 apps on the ovi store and another bajillion on the internet (unsigned) that should count for something. Free turn by turn navigation for life and **offline** maps, Incredible video and photo apps, the incredible ideas at Nokia beta labs-..... I can go on, but I wont. For me, Symbian is at par or even (at times) better than many of the contemporary OSes out there, and while it is true that the OS lacks the fit and finish that comes with the other OSes, but it is getting there. Nokia made a major change with ditching symbian and jumping ship, but it is good to see that they are committed to making symbian more usable before it stops support for symbian. CHeers to Nokia! Haters will hate, trolls will troll!

Very right Rahul, and symbian comes with that 'easy to use' factor which android can never give. User friendly nature is one of the basic requirements of an OS and symbian & ios are miles ahead from android in that way. Not everybody requires that complexity of android.

You people are just mad. Android is much much better when it comes to user experience. The main problem with Symbian is it's UI. As for Rahul's comment, you call the ovi store has apps? Useless themes are what constitutes most of the apps. Even Nokia has realized this and shifted to Windows Mobile 7.

I agree with Rahul. I see some of the Samsung smartphones and they look so plasicky and cheap. How nobody notices that is a mystery ? The hardware of a Nokia is class apart. Microsoft should not interfere there and just concentrate on getting the Win Phone out soon. They are fortunate to get Nokia as a partner. As far as OS itself is concerned, I think the new 'Anna' may end up impressing many. Perhaps, this is karmic concidence considering the old 'Anna' (read: Hazare) kicked ass recently :) I hope Nokia does so well with the Symbian variant^3 that it is forced to rethink about burying the OS two years from now.
