Removes the black strip on top of timeline that showed Trends and Ads
Twitter has released a new update for its app on iOS platform and removed the QuickBar feature that showed Ads and Twitter trends. It's quite surprising that Twitter decided to pull back this feature from its iOS app. QuickBar lets users see the trends on the top of the timeline of the Twitter iOS app. So, Twitter app users on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad will continue using the regular interface without being worried about the QuickBar on the top.
Earlier this month, Twitter updated its iOS app for iPhone and iPad with a new black strip on the top of user's timeline and called it QuickBar. When tapped, it would show trending topics and ads. In the official blog post, Twitter noted:
The QuickBar was originally conceived to help users discover what's happening in the broader world beyond people they already follow. The bar was also seen as a potential means of in-app notifications for new @mentions, DMs, and other important activity.
However, before the full potential of QuickBar could be reaped, Twitter decided to kill the feature from the iOS platform. It's basically a part of a trial and error method. Loads of users complained about the feature but it was useful for keeping a tab of the trends. I believe rather than forcing or removing abruptly, Twitter should've made it optional for the users to keep it there or not. But for now, QuickBar may rest in peace. No more Bar jokes.
Twitter will continue working on providing better in-app notification and discovery through the Twitter app. New Twitter v. 3.3.3 app for iOS platform can be found here.
