Any sort of goggle-type 3D technology will not work
Nintendo has recently made its glasses-less 3D game console Nintendo 3DS available in U.S.. The company's fifth home game console Wii is more than four years old and everyone seeks a worthy refresh. Rumours about Nintendo Wii successor getting Blu-ray and 3D support have been buzzing forums openly. However, Nintendo bosses have announced that they will do something that's future-proof. Nintendo America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, told CNN, "Glasses-free is a big deal. We've not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we've learned on 3-D, likely, that won't be it."
Nintendo Wii game console hasn't seen a refresh in last four years and we presume the next one would be ready to run for further five years or so. Considering the popularity of glasses-free Nintendo 3DS gaming console, most gaming enthusiasts and analysts presumed that Nintendo would go 3D with the Wii successor. Hideki Konno, 3DS hardware producer for Nintendo, told CNN, "I think at Nintendo, we realize that any sort of goggle-type 3D technology was not going to work. In order to make 3D technology viable with video games, we thought we needed to have glasses-free 3D."
Fils-Aime further clarified that Nintendo won't be adding 3D capabilities to the next generation Wii game console. Back in 2009, Fils-Aime had said that the next Wii console would go beyond HD and there would be additional capabilities added to the game console. As usual, the company executives didn't share details about the arrival of Wii successor.
Nintendo doesn't want to bring another slim looking game console but a next generation game console that can do much more than the current generation game consoles. Would there be motion sensors in remote? Would it have Kinect sensor like camera for controller free gaming? There's a strong possibility of glasses-free 3D but that too is entirely dependent on the display (TV) used. Obviously it would be a heavy bet. You never know what Nintendo is secretly planning for its next generation game console. We shall wait and watch.
