These will make a good buy for those on a shoestring budget
We all love to use and read about high-end smartphones. But the truth is that a majority of India's population still buys phones that are priced below Rs. 5,000. This little fact went down rather well with all the Indian cell phone manufacturers, who were more than willing to flood the market with their cheap, Chinese toys. Of course, those who value quality even at this price range know better than to stay away from such phones. But then what options are they left with? Luckily for them, some of the more established players in the mobile phone segment still have some good phones to offer in this price range and so today, we will be listing them out for you, so you won't ever have to think about going for a Micromax, Maxx Mobile, Karbonn, Lava, Zen, BlackCherry, Lemon, Orange, Pineapple and so on.
Nokia 5030 - Rs. 1,556
Just want a basic phone for making calls and messages and occasionally to listen to the radio? Then the Nokia 5030 is just for you. It looks fairly attractive for a phone in this price range and best of all has a built-in FM radio that does not even require you to plug in the headset. It also has a sizable 1.8-inch 128 x 160 resolution display, built-in flashlight and a 1020mAh battery that is rated to give up to 10 hours of talk time on a single charge.
Samsung E2370 - Rs. 2,689
The Samsung E2370 is for those who want a tough phone. It is IP54 certified and is splash, shock and dust proof. You can drop it from the height of several feet or submerge the phone in water and it will still work fine. It also has a handy flashlight built-in, 128 x 160 resolution display, microSD card slot with MP3 playback, stereo FM radio with recording, VGA camera with video recording and a massive 2000mAh battery, which can give up to 22 hours of talk time.
Hi Prasad, Nice collection. Can you suggest a phone good for Mums and dads.. I want to by my mom a phone..shes not at all inclined to technology...and would prefer a simple phone with big keys ...any suggestions anyone??
five best Nokia phone in under Rs. 5000 with smart multimedia features and Internet connectivity - Nokia 5233, Nokia Touch and Type C2-02, Nokia X2,
Nokia X2-01, Nokia C2-01
Samsung Champ C3303 is a nice handset. One can also go for Samsung Hero E3213 or Nokia X2 in this price range. These are good phones. Recently i scroll through www.saholic.com and i found some good featured phones in this range from different brands.
The Samsung Galaxy 5 (I5503) - an entry-level Android 2.1 smartphone with a 2.8" QVGA (320 x 240 pixel) capacitive touchscreen, should now be available around Rs. 8,000. Signal reception is good and sound is quite clear.
Features:
· both Wi-Fi and 3G (HSDPA 7.2 Mbps) connectivity.
· Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP
· accelerometer for screen auto-rotate
· DLNA enables viewing photos and videos on PCs (using Windows Media player for example)
· Android browser is fast. Sites not specifically created for PDAs/mobiles are formatted intelligently. Any other browser (Opera, Dolphin) of your choice can also be installed.
· 5.1 channel SRS sound in headset mode. Of course, to get the full benefit of it you'll have to buy a better headset (standard 3.5 mm audio jack). Alternately, as it supports A2DP one should be able to use wireless Bluetooth speakers or headset.
· supports upto up to 16GB via microSD card (2GB card included)
· lots of free apps available for download from Android Market
· Kies PC suite for connecting to PC/laptop
Cons:
· display illegible in sunlight (this is so for all lower end mobiles)
· 2MP fixed-focus camera; no flash
· no front-facing (secondary) camera - so, no video calling
· loudspeaker grill at the rear - alarm is fully audible only when it is placed screen downwards
· no DivX/Xvid video support
· no multitouch (so, no pinch zooming)
· OS is Android 2.1 (Eclair), not v2.2 (Froyo), so no Flash support.
I purchased the phone in Nov. 2010 and am quite satisifed with it. I use GPRS/EDGE for internet access; haven't upgraded SIM to 3G. Use Wi-fi where it is available free (eg. in several malls).
!dea and Vodafne are good network operators. However, they might not have good coverage in your area.
Thanks for the feedback, I have been planning to gift a mobile for my mother, But as you know people of thet age group cannot use the phone with ease as they cannot understand how to operate it , can anyone suggest a phone with a very easy user interface ?
If budget is not a constraint, then going for the biggest touchscreen phone makes sense for seniors as they can easily use the same with weak eyesight as well. Samsung Galaxy S is highly recommended with 4 inch plus touchscreen. If budget is a constraint you can check out iBall Seniors mobile which is specially made for them. Nokia 5233
I gifted this cell to my mom a year back, it has full touch screen, easy to use, sliding contacts bar on homescreen where she can keep favorite contacts, 2mp camera and low price too.
I think nokia c1-01 is the best. Its simple to use, having mp3 player, video player, expandable memory, radio and VGA camera. Light weight, descent in looking especially liked by olders. I gave it to my mom, thats why I m telling u. I mostly prefer Nokia phones because of its simplicity that anybody can operate it because of its user friendly interface. I bought it at the price of 2450. If you want to try other manufactureres like samsung or sony you can also try them. Good luck buddy. But the last thing is, Mom will always be the mom- whatever the phone it is she will definately be happy with your gift. Good luck:-)
Hey u all. If u want a 3G phone. Definitely cedar should be your choice as it supports multitasking (upto 16-20 apps running simultaneously in background), MusicCall, 280 MB internal-memory, external theme support, gr8 camera & music player also the butter-like UI, which are nt present in even single fone in this price range. So it makes sense going for Cedar.
Why dont you consider phones from Lava, Micromax etc ?? under 5 k , u get loads of features n they r pretty good 2. Total value for money. I've been using lava kkt25 since 7-8 months n totaly satisfied wid its performance + its a dual sim with dual speakers n gr8 sound quality. Would live you guys to consider phones from these brands as well.
Dude it is UMTS 3g. supports max speed of 384kbps. I have used nokia and moto handsets for years. Nokia creates an ecosystem. Adeventurists like me or reviewers in Techtree know the difference between handsets very well.
The reason why I Like to purchase things from net is for same reason. The salesmen use the amateurish language like 3g enabled. wifi enabled. if asked which 3g it supports they go mum.
Looks and optical trackpad are personal preferences. As for Wi-Fi, it isn't mush of an advantage as the web browsers on these devices aren't that great.
I have moto ex115. I am quite happy with this mobile.
Display is really good
Memore support upto 32 gb
qwerty keyboard is better than nokia x2(don't remember the name exactly
my only concern is ....
speaker are not of good quality. Produce really loud voice but not quite clear.
Well written Naik. Why did you choose Moto Ex115 over Lg C310 & Samsung C3222? I am looking to buy one of these 3 as my standby phone. But I have been hearing that Moto has a very bad UI. HOW YOU FOUND THE INTERFACE OF EX115? Is it like indochinese phones?
