Accessing wireless Internet using USB dongles has become popular over the past few years. The advantage of this type of Internet is that you can take it anywhere you want to, without having to get tied down by cables of wired internet. But one of the major woes that have been attributed to this type of Internet is that it cannot be shared with another computer in an easy way, or so it has been assumed. But the fact is that you can easily achieve it by using just a router, without any additional software. Here is how.

Before we start, there are certain requirements in the PC to be able to share USB dongle Internet. You will need a PC with one Ethernet port and a router (with Wi-Fi if you want to share the Internet over Wi-Fi). We are using Windows 7.

Open Control Panel by clicking on Start and Control Panel.

Under Network and Internet section, click on View network status and tasks to open Network and Sharing Center.

Click on Change adapter settings link located on the left of this window. You will notice the connection icon for your USB dongle in this window. In our case, this is ZTE-EVDO. Right-click on this icon and click on Properties.

Hii Jayesh, as I have told you , I tried the steps already, and I did it again since you told it again, but still the the wifi is unidentifiable by the mobile, which says there must be a setup problem with my wifi settings!! If you wish I ll mail you my team viewer id and pass, so that we can sort this out more easily with the help of you... I created a ad hoc network ( this is after enabling the sharing option in the MBLAZE net connection) and then saved the network and finished the setup .. the ad hoc network displays WAITING FOR USERS TO CONNECT and my mobile is not able to find it... ( for your info; mine is a new htc salsa mobile) .. I can see the WIRELESS CONNECTION adapter in the network and sharing with a big red X in the corner of the icon , saying NOT CONNECTED ... plz guide me.. trying all means to make it work... !!

I suggest you unshare the internet connection and start the steps to create the ad hoc connection again. Remember, DO NOT SHARE the connection because this is probably the only difference I can see from the information you have provided to me.

I have personally tried the method I mentioned in the previous reply with a Tata Photon and BSNL USB dongle and it worked with both, I don't see any reason why it should not work with any other USB dongle internet. You don't have to enable sharing as the steps I mentioned should take care of everything. I will enumerate the steps again. Open Network and Sharing Center. Click on Set up a new connection or network. Click on Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network. Make sure that you click on Turn on Internet connection sharing in the penultimate step, otherwise you won't be able to access the internet in this way.

Whenever the software or PC suite of a Mobile phone is connected to a PC or Laptop, a modem is also installed. Is it possible to utilise this modem to send a FAX message, like our good old 'dial-up' modem. If any body can enlighten about this I will be very much grateful.

@Balaju, you can easily create an ad-hoc connection in your laptop by going to Network and Sharing Center in Windows 7 and share your MBlaze internet connection

I have an easier option. Just download and install connectify. It's free and you do not need to invest in a router. Your laptop will become a router itself.

not everyone in India has a laptop, we mostly have desktop PCs so this solution is better

For Desktop PC, I only a fool will use an USB modem as it is slower and data plans are expensive than a wired connection. USB modems are for laptops so that one can get connected on the move. For home use on a desktops wired connections are preferred and you get a router with it. In addition to it, you will need to buy an addition piece of hardware (router) to use this method. So better get a DSL connection than using it..

dear oversmart Mi Hau, you dont know a thing about India, so why dont you just shut the F up? we have USB data plans which are competitively priced when compared to wired. and i have a laptop and a desktop, why would i want to get two internet connections, one wired for desktop and one wireless for laptop? i would prefer one wireless connection for both so that i can use it even when i take the laptop with me anywhere and dont need to waste money (yes, we also dont have money to waste like you have in your country)

Dear Mahesh, not me but you are acting over smart here. What can you prove with using foul language? and yes, let me ask you how is the USB internet devices have a cheaper data plans? I know that for 750 INR, you get unlimited DSL connection a month. However for for 750 INR you will get maximum of 5GB data per month on USB modems. Please refrain from using F word as it shows what a low life creature you are. I have high respect for Indians and have some great Indian friends but you are totally opposite..

Hi there, @Mahesh, please dont degrade the Indian culture by using foul language. @Mi Hua, we do indeed have some USB data plans from BSNL and MTNL which are cheaper than wired data plans. Again, Mahesh there is no need for using foul language on this forum. Thanks.
