While most users are looking forward to the arrival of iOS 4.3 which is scheduled to be released on March 11, Apple is reportedly planning to show the next major version of the mobile operating system - iOS 5.0. Apple centric German blog Macerkopf.de reportedly got tipped by a trusted source that Apple is planning to hold an iOS 5.0 preview event in April.

The company has been holding major iOS versions preview events at its Cupertino headquarters every year during late March-April period. Last year, Apple gave out the media invites for iOS 4.0 sneak previews in the first week of April. Now, with the reports about the iOS 5 sneak peek event, its arrival now seems more than obvious. However, Apple may change the plans to suit its strategy for its future products.

Some details about the next generation iPhone currently dubbed iPhone 5 are already buzzing the web. We reported about the possibility of iPhone 5 getting an aluminum back panel and A5 SoC processor. That's on the hardware part. Now, on the software front, we presume that the iPhone 5 will debut with iOS 5.0 running on it.

Rival company Google is expected to show the next major Android 2.4 Ice Cream update at the Google I/O conference scheduled on May 10 this year. Apple would certainly like to announce its next major iOS update before that.

As of now, we don't know what new features and technology Apple is looking to add in iOS 5.0 version. But do stay tuned for the wish list we plan to chart out for the features we want iOS 5.0 to bring.
