Might be released alongside a major WP7 updated codenamed Mango
Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system based devices four months ago in mid-October 2010. So far, Microsoft has managed to partner with six major mobile handset makers - HTC, Samsung, Dell, LG, ASUS and recently Nokia. In September this year, Acer too will join these six handset makers with a couple of new WP7 based devices. Acer spokesperson confirmed the company's plan to launch WP7 devices in September or October this year.
So WP7 will then have seven handset makers on board. Sounds like a sweet numerical proposition. Although Acer didn't drop any hints at the recent Mobile World Congress 2011 convention, the company is quietly working on plans to launch WP7 devices alongside a major WP7 update.
Back in December, we reported about a WP7 update codenamed Mango that is expected to be released in the Fall of 2011. Hence, Acer is waiting for this update and I believe the other six handset makers too might unveil new WP7 devices at around the same time. These WP7 devices might not be made available immediately and it would take a month or two to be available. Hence, we can expect to see WP7 Mango based devices by year-end.
