A Gartner report declared Apple ahead of popular mobile phone manufacturers like Sony Ericsson and Motorola in terms of sales in 2010. So what's the big deal? Companies do keep out-pacing each other year after year. But the point to note here is that Sony Ericsson and Motorola each had at least a dozen cell phones released last year, Apple did it with just two actively selling models - the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
Apple sold 46.6 million units of its smartphone in 2010; that is close to double their sales from the year before that. Such progress is suggested largely due to the newer models selling in more countries and the end of exclusivity deals (like AT&T's in U.S.). India still continues to be not one of those countries to get the iPhone models on time.
Right now, the ranking of top mobile sellers is such - Nokia, Samsung, LG, RIM and Apple - according to Gartner's reports.
But that's not the best news Apple has had today, analysts predict it could become the biggest firm in the world by next year; beating current numero uno Exxon, an oil company
I Never even think of Buying any iPhone/iPad just because I need Flash Lite and Java in My Phone
I use lots of Java Applications on My Phone
And I like to watch Flash Contents-Videos Animations and even Advertisements on the Websites on my Nokia Phone which is Equipped with Flash Lite.
I wonder why Don't iPhone/iPad Users Miss 'Adobe Flash' Contents while Browing on their Safari Web Browser....
Steve Jobs Promised the Users 'Full Browing Experience' but Users just Get Empty Space in Places of Flash Contents in the Websites
Is this Full Browing Experience Mr Steve Jobs?
I Pity on Mr Steve Jobs(for his Rude behaviour for Adobe) and Apple Products Users(for their Ignorance)...
I think Motorola has a few cool phones coming soon and the much anticipated Xoom tablet. Android is eroding the Apple market slowly but surely. I m getting the xoom tablet and the Atrix phone. I am also buying two Xoom tablet for my brother and my boyfriend.
I don't really like Apple BUT I will hand it to them with regards to iPad & iPhone. They really seem to hit the NAIL on the head.
3% sounds less but if you look carefully...Apple only sells 1 model of the iPhone (well a rehash every year) so with 1 model they have grabbed 3%.
Also, their 1 model is aimed at the high end so if you would just compare mobile share at high end it would be much greater maybe 30-40%!
Kudos to them really & yuck to MS,Samsung, Nokia...all 3 having their own crap...Bada OS!?? Really it's a friggin piece of sh!t. Windows Phone 7? Would be good if it came out 3 years ago! Symbian 3? Open source is good but no apps makes a piece of sh!t like Bada OS.
All these 3 guys Samsung, MS, Nokia need to collaborate or something....to against Apple, Google Android & Blackberry.
Apple sits at the top of the mountain!
This is clearly due to sony ericssons problems before 2009 they have decided to sell high end phones at high prices to turn a profit. Therefore has no relevance to how good Apples sales are currently. If you look at the Android OS it is outselling apple world wide
Hey Rohan...
What's your take on why exactly Apple's products like the iPhone and the iPad don't get launched in India on time while others do (Macs, iPods)? The new iPods launched in 2010 arrived within weeks of their launch in several stores. iMacs and Macbooks with the latest specs are available and are selling like hot cakes - I see more and more people buying Macs. How come Apple can be so shortsighted when it comes to the iPhone - India's a huge market for phones, even top-of-the-line feature phones. Surely they don't think we're all snake charmers and sheep-herders here...
Perhaps Apple's decision makers think that the market in India have not opened up to high-end smart phones and Tablet PCs, but this also leaves a bad impression on Indian fans of Apple products.
@Sid,
The iPhone and the iPad are selling at an unprecedented rate and even Apple will have trouble maintaining its inventory of it were to sell these in India. The fact remains that Apple has been manufacturing macs and ipods for much much longer than they have been manufacturing iPads (Hardly a year) and iPhone (only aroud 4 years).
So It is understandble that Apple has far higher production to demand ratio for the macs than they have for ipads and iphones.
Now that the Ipad 1 hype is over and they are on the verge of launching iPad2, sales have reduced and they have unsold inventory left on their hands. So, they see fit to release the iPad in India. As for the iPhone, they only jsut launched the iPhone 4 on verizon in the US and the deman was so high that thy had to close the preorders within 4 hours! So no chance of he iPhone making its way to India.
Another reason is- Iphones and iPads are preetttttty expensive in india, seeing as they do not have an exclusivity deal in place, like they have had in the US. So, there is not much demand in India. This is a weak argument, I know :) Macs are sold at a ridiculously expensive price in india, and are still selling respectably.
Sorrry for the typos, my keyboard is pretty damn old...
