    Apple iPad Review

Prasad Naik, Feb 07, 2011 1409 hrs IST

The best tablet money can buy

Great display, good browser, smooth, easy to use interface, plenty of great applications and games, terrific battery life

Too heavy for single-handed use, no FaceTime, single loudspeaker, apps are much more expensive compared to iPhone's

Nine months; that's a long time in the world of technology, where there are new innovations almost every day. But that's how long it took for Apple to launch the iPad in India, three months away from the launch of the second generation model. I'm sure everyone has a theory as to why Apple is doing this now, but let's not get into that. The fact is that the iPad is here and if I had to make a guess, looking at the iPhone situation in India, it is going to be the only one we get in 2011.

apple ipad

For this review, we decided to take a different route. Since we are way behind everyone else with the review, instead of our regular in-depth review, we decided to write six reasons why you should and should not buy the iPad. So without wasting any more time (because nine months is long enough already), let us get on with the review, starting with things that the iPad is great at and why you should buy it.

I would've also used my mouth to call up TechTree and lodge a protest, but that won't be possible as it's pretty occupied with moot's dick.

I am super original! Read my articles. Only I don't get it how other blogs get it months before I put it up. x-( I have infinite tolerance for bashing and have a large attention span *Oh look pink ponies and unicorn* Whoo. This glitter is sooo shiny... What was I saying? Ah forget it. Apple is so awesome even if they don't really give two hoots of my opinion.

I suggest you give them the Gold Star rectally, its trajectory aided by your foot. I usually like trolls, but these f*ckwits are rank amateurs.

He he, nice to see Prasad hands out gold stars... Wonder though, had he had an actual "career" would he be still handing out crappy reviews on worthless products... Cast your vote people... PS: I think most of the posts in favour of Mr.Naik seem to be posted by with with not so original names.. Gosh, how sad and pathetic... He might as well go and sit on his mommy's lap and cry and complain about how people are *bullying* him on his reviews :P

What Apple Naik gave 4 to apple produkt ??? I was hoping he would give 6 out of 5. Fackts about Apple Naik: While reviewing Galaxy Tab, APPLE naik compared every feature of Galaxy tab to iPad, he was doing a comparo while reviewing Galaxy TAB, now No mention of Galaxy tab even where Galaxy tab F*cks Ipad every possible way (LITERALLY), like usb support, video calls, affordable and free apps. Truely Apple naik proved he is a Real APPLE naik.

If it was possible (and plausible) for me to give 6 out of 5 rating to the iPad, I would have done that, just to mess with you. Funny thing is, even though what you wrote is clearly meant to insult me and anger me, I’m actually laughing here whereas you are probably still foaming at the mouth and convulsing after typing that. Thank you for providing this entertainment. It comes as a welcome relief after a hard day’s work.

Prasad, its highly appreciable on your part to not lose calm over people making such comments. You, Rohan are few people whose articles I look forward to reading. I am no great techie but a common man curious about gadgets. But still, I do feel that the review has got a tinge of bias. The review for MacBook Air was similar but I thought it was one off. Probably you might want to go through that. As for iPad, yes this peice is indeed VFM, not by Apple but by general standard. But then, Apple has always charged ridiculous premium and will do so for iPad in way of apps and accessories. Now that is a big turn-off. I don't want to be stranded with something I can connect nothing to and have to shell out grands for that.
Prasad Naik
,Mumbai, on Feb 08, 2011 01:04 PM
If you feel there was a hint of bias in a review, it's only because a product is really good (or bad). Good products have that kind of an effect on a reviewer. You tend to pour your heart out while writing about them because you really want the world to know how good the product is. SImilarly, a really bad product can bring out the bad side in a reviewer and he would want to make absolutely sure that no one reading the review comes within ten feet of that product, leave alone think of buying it. We at Techtree don't water down our articles so that they appeal to everyone. I know a lot of popular sites that do that to stay on the safe side by being cautious about saying particular things about a product so as to not anger the fanboys. We don't do that here. If it is bad, we will say it is bad. If it is good, it will be praised. You may feel we are being biased but we are just being honest. But it seems people have a hard time these days digesting the truth. They are so used to these mild articles they read everywhere around them that whenever they see one that uses stronger words to describe a product they feel the writer is obviously biased. Nobody wants to read the truth these days. They want to read what they have in their minds. If the writer says anything that differs from the preconceived notions of a person about a product, he is obviously wrong or biased. How dare he have any other opinion about it?! Unfortunately, that is the state of Internet today. But we refuse to conform to it and always will.

Do not waste your money on this piece of crap. Buy the Notion Ink Adam instead. Hell of a lot better in every possible way. If you have to waste money on an Apple product then buy a iPod Touch.. its smaller, cheaper and does exactly the same things as the iPad.

I do agree iOS is amazing to use, but release it in India after 9 months and when iPad2 is close to its release in US is infact "dumping" and not "release". So its sad to read "Best tablet money can buy!!!". And calling Galaxy Tab "rubbish" is insane. Both tablets has their own pros and cons. If "Android" is meant for only mobile platform then what what was iOS meant for?

@ Prasad I dont know how could you bash your own readers ? Isnt the Whole point of writing articles is to attract readers to your work ?? Everyone has opinions, which can be both positive and negative .... Just accept criticism and try and improve... that will be for your own good .... My suggestions, please make your reviews in 3 parts 1) Positives and Negatice ( Like you have done) 2) Compare to other Tablets ( helps users to choose according to their Usage) 3) Compare to Netbooks ( Useful when users are thinking of buying netbooks or tablets )

@ Prasad. I agree with you, Galaxy tab is definitely very disappointing and expensive. Have you heard of the term " aandon main kanha raja " ?? Exactly happening with the apple ipad. It looks good coz there is nothing else. BUT that does not give apple to use india as a DUMPING GROUND. shame on you apple. I hope people are intelligent enough to realise that ans give the Ipad a boot. also kudos to Samsung for launching the galaxy Tab very soon in India after it's international launch Looking forward to the Adam..lets see how it goes....

Now this is what I would like to ask entire Techtree senior management. Do you guys think its appropriate on your part to let Mr Prasad review any product where apple has presence. Look at the unashamedly biased reviews of Ipad and Tab. Any neutral reviewer would follow a consistent approach while reviewing products. He reviewed Galaxy Tab by comparing every single feature of it against Ipad (and conveniently ignoring features which Galaxy Tab had and ipad din't). But while reviewing Ipad he very well ignored existence of other tablets in the market. Guess readers of your website are more intelligent that your very own Mr Naik. Look at your poll result, majority of them are saying they would rather wait for Ipad 2 or buy other tablets or be content with smartphones rather than buying the current version existing in India. If only Mr Prasad Naik can understand why.....????
Prasad Naik
,Mumbai, on Feb 08, 2011 12:48 PM
I have made it amply clear that the iPad is the best tablet on the market. Why is there any need to compare it with anything else again? When you say something is the best in a particular category, doesn't it automatically make it better than everything else? If I compare it with something like the Galaxy Tab, the iPad would win by a country mile, giving you another reason to whine in the comments section. If you ask me, what the senior management at Techtree really needs to do right now is make commenting on Techtree really difficult on so only the smarter ones get through.

They are not against the iPad. 31% of the people interested in the tablet are waiting for the second generation model, which is to be expected. With the new iPad around the corner, most people would be holding out for it. What people don’t understand, however, is that the new iPad won’t be released in India simultaneously, which means we are stuck with the current one for some time. The current iPad is the best tablet available in the market today, so even if you are stuck with it, it still is a great product.
Prasad Naik
,Mumbai, on Feb 08, 2011 03:42 PM
Dear Sushil, if you think an article is “nicked” if it is taken from another website while giving them proper credit, then you need to go back to your English teacher and ask for a refund. For your information, it is a common practice.

the iPad perhaps may be the best tablet around, but the best tablet is still zilch compared to a regular netbook, in my opinion. I still remember how often netbooks got extremely negative reviews when, for example, keyboard comfortability was an issue. If I were to rate the iPad according to the same standard as netbooks, I would give it 5 to 6 points out of 10, where the Asus Eee Pc 1015PN, for example, would easily receive 8 to 9 points out of ten.

Apple is sure trying to clear its inventory to stock up iPad 2 for sure. Apple is know to market their devices cleverly by tie-up with operators in US & revenue share for 2 years. The buyer thinks of only upfront money one has to pay & not 30-50$ dollars every month!!! But here is india, that model will not workout. So it never launches new devices & sells only end of life products. US has high shoppholics who will make loan to buy iPhone or iPad & thats how companies like apple are able to fund their R&D , lure their partners to get the latest technology on to apple devices As far as money can buy tags does not lure indian customers since BMW may be the best money can buy car in india but i am happy with my swift!!!

I am using the ipad for 8 months now and I have not come across a single person who does not get hooked to it after using it for a day..the bottom line is the experience u get from ios and ipad cannot be matched by tab and android at present, prasad's review is totally unbaised seeing that tab still uses a android version which is primarily designed for smartphones and not for tablets. Use ipad for a day , you will forget about all flaws of flash support, cameras etc.

I love the IPAD. I bought one as soon as it came out in the US and have not regretted it since. It's a one stop interface for everything I want to do from listening to my music, writing, watching movies, surfing the net and even learning a new language. It has reduced my paper clutter as all my magazines and newspapers come to me on one device. I appreciate the criticism that Apple bundles its products forcing us to create an APPLE environment but their products are beautiful and functional, so I do not mind. I liken it to any cosmetic brand that works best when you use the cleanser, toner and moisturiser together to get the best effect. The whole lack of camera, flash interface and usb slot is really just white noise. I am yet to miss any of it. It could be lighter and could have a much better speaker. I also don't know if all the apps are available on an Indian credit card. Ibooks and kindle are pretty useless on an Indian credit card.

@prasad naik It's great that the iPad finally launched here in India..its a great device (been a mac book pro user for 5 years now). never liked the Tab even though use the Galaxy S. was just wondering... how will it stack up against the notion ink adam? yes they they run on different platforms, different kind of devices and yes notion ink has run into issues wrt shipments.. but it still something lotta ppl have been looking fwd too. At the end of the day they both are devices which come under the category of "tablets".... possible to get a iPad vs Adam review?? Even though it's still in process of pre-shipment orders.. Posted this comment coz weighing my options.. hope you would oblige :)

I think U missed to mention the device does not support multitasking, and use of microSIM which literally no one else uses and is currently a headache for the service provider, It runs applications only from the apple store, No HDMI out, for each and everything U have to use Adapters even for normal USB. Really bad for the price.

The unsaid intention of all current day writers is to create controversy so that there are more comments....and the write-up looks popular to the reader. So, considering, ignoring or condemning is selective and intentional to attract attention. In the bargain, most of the comments on the article are not informative when it comes to product info, comparision with competition, specification, price etc. I guess that's what readers want and look for ! Not Naik bashing ! Agree with Rahul on the reasons for Apple launching ipad1 in India after 9 months ! While we cradle the ipad1, the rest of the world is going to school with ipad2 !! We should remember that Steve Jobs had a liver transplant and not brain !

@Prasad Naik I don't think you're a power user Naik. Much rather a general, eye candy wanting sort of a person who would much rather prefer Apple as a brand over other productive devices more specifically the Galaxy Tab. I am running a custom rom (Roto JMI v2). If you ever get the time try customizing android and see it fu*k apple in the a**. Apple can't do half the sh*t that android can. Good day sir!

Prasad , Why is it that the fact ,Flash is not present on the iPad - not in the 'Why not to buy section' ?
Prasad Naik
,Mumbai, on Feb 07, 2011 05:06 PM
Because I really don't think it is a big deal. Rival companies have made a big hoopla about it because it is one of the few advantages they had over the iPad (and Apple) but in reality, most people would hardly ever miss it. And the upside of not having Flash is a smoother browsing experience and better battery life.
Rohan

I'd second that...I don't think there has ever been a time where I was inconvenienced because of a page containing flash not opening on a mobile device.

Its ok, if one says that iPad is the best tablet money can buy. But it would be quite unfair to call Galaxy Tab rubbish. It will do all that iPad with so many extras that iPad never can. And its priced very close to iPad now. I would say its unfair to call galaxy tab uselss. At least when compared to iPad. And Prasad, why is it that every Apple product review from you declares it the best product of century? Last time it was MacBook Air. Now its this. Yet, I don't see Apple taking market by the storm in India.
Prasad Naik

Add this to why not to buy it- *It is old and aging. *They are dumping left over stock to clear the western markets and prepare them for iPad2. They probably had this in mind when they launched iPad1. * There is no file browser. Regarding the weight, .73kg is not that much of weight. But it feels a lot lot heavier because of the design. Look at the Notion Ink Adam- The design is so obvious yet revolutionary- It weighs about the same as an iPad and yet feels MUCH lighter. It's got to do with the position of the CG (closer the CG to the hands, lesser the strain on your hand. The iPad 2 cannot be much lighter than the iPad1 because well, its more components and associated circuitry in the same space. Plus batteries. Add to this the closed nature of the OS and the whole experience, every android device out there seems so much more enticing. I own and love my macbook pro, but thats as far as I am willing to support apple. As far as Tablets go, I am looking at buying the Notion Ink Adam. I would have loved the xoom if it were priced reasonably, and there was an actual international launch. Ah, now I have to stop rambling :)
