Intel's updated chipset will not be able to meet supply demands till April
Intel's Sandy Bridge line-up processor line-up released in January had a troubled birth. Like we reported yesterday, Intel admitted a serious flaw in the Sandy Bridge compatible 6 series Cougar Point chipset that made most of the SATA ports unusable. This "circuit design oversight" is poised to cost Intel dear with estimated recall costs upwards of a billion dollars. However, Intel isn't the only one hit hard by the snag. Apple's next line of MacBook Pro laptops, which are supposed to carry Sandy Bridge hardware, will be delayed at least until April.
Speaking to AppleInsider, an Intel spokesperson said that the design flaw affects both desktop and mobile variants of the Sandy Bridge chipsets. The problem affecting SATA based regular and SSD hard drives and optical drives has been corrected in the newer batch of Sandy Bridge motherboards, but the recalls have hit the MacBook Pro release schedule badly.
As AppleInsider notes, the new MacBook Pros will not ship till March according to Apple's optimistic estimates, however, Intel claims that its corrected line of Sandy Bridge chipsets will not be ready to meet the volume requirements till April.
Apple being a high volume player, it will definitely get first preference from Intel, but even then it will take a few more weeks for Intel to ship those batches of chipsets to Apple.
since your from india, I think you should buy it now because they take a while to release things there... I know from personal experience, I'm an Indian in the west.
