Activision ropes in Raven and Sledgehammer to help Infinity Ward
The next Call of Duty game from Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare 3, will be out by November this year, reports Los Angeles Times. Infinity Ward hasn't been in a good shape lately after losing president and founder Jason West and Frank Zampanella to the controversial firing by Activision, after which the key employees followed the suit.
According to the newspaper's sources, the beleaguered developer is being helped by Activision subsidiaries Raven Software (Singularity) and Sledgehammer Games. The latter is a new development house formed after Activision clinched Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey from EA's Visceral Games, which was behind the brilliant Dead Space. Activision, however, hasn't issued any clarification on this development.
Activision's firing of Infinity Ward's Jason West and Frank Zampanella may have been cruel but tactically sound way of saving them a lot of profit sharing money, but it may prove to be a bad strategic move if the new team cannot match up to the success of Modern Warfare 2. However, Activision does have a solid line-up with Raven Software and the guys behind Dead Space? Only time will tell.
