We have been reviewing portable hard drives since long and have seen them evolve. The latest evolutionary step has been SuperSpeed USB 3.0, which is up to 10 times faster than its predecessor and the next big thing after the advent of USB 2.0. We have reviewed a couple of USB 3.0 hard drives before, and this time we have got Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive SuperSpeed USB 3.0 with 500GB capacity and in the midnight blue color scheme. This is a rugged drive, which can take a lot of bumps and yet maintain the data intact. Read on to find out how the drive performed in our test.

Most portable drive makers do not provide any software disc these days, instead opting to put the software on the drive itself. While this is not such a bad idea, there is a chance of ignorant users accidentally deleting the software from the drive without backing it up. So you can download the software from the website instead. Only the security software is present on the drive, but that is in the form of a virtual CD drive, which means that it cannot be accidentally deleted.

The sad fact that Iomega drive will not allow access to the drive on some computers. I use the drive and some computers it shows the Virtual CD drive and prompts me for my password, but others it only shows the drive and will not allow me access to my drive. I contact technical support several times and chatted with different representatives, but no one has a solution.

I have been trying to locate a dealer of Iomega at Agartala, Tripura, India for buying an eGo portable drive. Though I could find 'Access Computers' to be the only dealer for the same here, but he is not responding against my query for a 500GB/1TB drive! Any help on this?
