A previously patented iGroups technology might be included with the iOS 4.3 update
Several new features have been discovered since Apple released the iOS 4.3 beta build to platform developers. Among many others, MacRumors reported one interesting feature - Find My Friends. This feature is associated with Apple's Cloud service, MobileMe, and the options to enable Find My Friends feature is in the Settings.
The new iOS 4.3 is full of surprises and will bring a slew of new features for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Find My Friends appears to be a service similar to Google Latitude that shows your friends. Back in March 2010, we reported about Apple's patent filing about a social networking technology feature dubbed - iGroups that works via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This technology makes use of the device owner's proximity to search for more individuals with a similar device.
Find My Friends feature will be integrated with MobileMe service, which also offers Find My iPhone service to pin-point the location of the device in surveillance. Hence, it appears that Find My Friends would work on similar lines and quite possibly would be made available only to MobileMe subscribers.
