Verizon CFO says iPad will have embedded chip for connecting it directly to Verizon networks
After watching a number of Google Android based tablets such as the BlackBerry Playbook, everyones eyes are now set on Apple to announce the second generation of its tablet iPad. Kevin Rose said that the iPad 2 (as we refer to it temporarily) would be introduced in three or four weeks.
It was only 18 hours ago that Verizon Wireless and Apple unveiled the CDMA version of the iPhone 4. Francis Shammo, CFO, Verizon Wireless told Bloomberg in an interview that Verizon will bring the iPad with an embedded chip. That embedded chip in fact is the 4G LTE chip meant for connecting the iPad tablet directly to Verizon networks.
Apple has already been selling the iPad with MiFi device since the last two-three months. And now the update about the second generation iPad comes from Verizon. I bet it's not going to be an Verizon Exclusive iPad.
Taiwan based sources placed with component makers have already stated that the iPad 2 will ship in WiFi, UMTS and CDMA versions. Also, the second generation iPad would be launched in conjunction with mobile operators (may be: AT&T and Verizon). Sources have said that Apple will ship 40 million iPad 2 units this year.
