Castlevania:Lord of Shadows is the first game made after patching
You've read it right. The PS3 Piracy scene is now open after George Geohot Hotz released firmware 3.55 jailbreak for PlayStation console yesterday. Gamesradar reported about the first evidence of the hacked game running on an unmodded PlayStation 3 console. No matter how much Geohot or fail0verflow team tries to prevent piracy, there is always someone to mess their work up.
PS3-Scene forum member riku.kh3 managed to patch and run his game backup on an unmodded PS3 game console. The Noteworthy part here is that he didn't have to mod his game console in anyway. So all it requires is to use the Public Root Key and patch the game backups. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is claimed to be one of the first games that was patched and made to run legitimately on the PlayStation 3 game console.
Now I don't condone piracy personally and I certainly think that people who're online aren't stupid. If I wouldn't have mentioned the source, Google would've led them to the result. Do note that entire process of extracting files from games and signing them with root keys requires PS3 tools and sound knowledge of Linux. This clearly isn't meant for the masses.
The original post by riku.kh3 states: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (BLES01047) signed&packed EBOOT (33.5MB)
1) Install PKG file. 2) Transfer contents of USRDIR folder, EXCEPT EBOOT.BIN, to /devhdd0/game/BLES01047/USRDIR/
Thats all! Tested! The game will work from XMB on retail nonJB 3.41, 3.55 and future versions.
Now it's not easy as riku.kh3 makes it sound. Caution is necessary if you wish to sign your own games to make them run on your unmodded PS3 game console. PSGroove website has put up a games patching guide that will let users patch (sign) their own games.
1) Download and compile latest tools from git.fail0verflow.com Git (old versions of unself produce incorrect ELF) 2) Extract ELF from SELF 3) Hexedit ELF, find and replace dev_bdvd to correct path on dev_hdd0 (not all, but most games require this step) 4) Build NPDRM SELF using Geohot's tools 5) Build package using psn_package_npdrm 6) Patch your builded package using Geohot's tool (only for 3.55 firmware)
That's it. If you can't follow this guide, a more detailed guide won't help you. This also works from 3.41, with no jailbreak dongle.

Sony PlayStation software engineers certainly need to pull up their socks and roll out the necessary security updates at the earliest. Piracy of games is rife with PS1 and PS2 but that didn't affect Sony or the game developers in a way that they'd stop making games entirely. Security signing of games is serious loophole that Sony as well as Game developers should look into seriously.
