Bionix NS1 kernel used with a rooted Nexus S to overclock 1GHz Hummingbird CPU to run at 1.2GHz
Google-Samsung Nexus S was officially launched on Dec 7 and same day followed the announcement of Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. Nexus S is officially first handset with Gingerbread factory-loaded and running 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor. XDA-Developers forum member Morfic posted a custom Bionix NS1 kernel file that would overclock the 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor to 1.2GHz clockspeed. Morfic did mention that there's much work left like fixing the Bluetooth and then release a tweaked firmware.
Google had clarified that the company that rooting an Android phone leads the owner to freedom and also involves bit of risk if the person doesn't know what he/she is doing. Morfic's custom Bionix NS1 kernel requires a rooted Stock Android 2.3 ROM. To root your Nexus S device follow the instructions mentioned here carefully at your own risk. There are certain pitfalls of overclocking the processor and most of them are linked to battery life.
With the tweaked Bionix NS1 kernel, the Hummingbird processor was unlocked to run at 1.2GHz. Now the geeks have their eyes set on the new family of Android phones with dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 based SoC for running it.
