PC gamers beat console owners to get first dibs on Bad Company 2 Vietnam map

DICE came up with a novel idea of involving gamers in their new Vietnam expansion pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. EA's Sweden based game development arm DICE has put up a remastered version of "Operation Hastings" multiplayer map at stake; the spoils going to the platform (PC, Xbox 360 and PS3) that meets a challenge. However, unlocking the map wasn't easy. The developer laid down a condition stating that in order for the map to be unlocked, the platform has to rachet up 69 million collective team actions.

Team actions involve sniper support actions like spotting, repairing, healing and reviving team mates, and undertaking resupply actions for your team. The challenge went live on December 22 and within eight days; PC gamers across the world hit the magic number of 69 million team actions. The console gamers could only muster up 28 and 38 million team actions for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms respectively. With even the last bastions of PC gaming (Crytek and Id Software) turning to the dark side with Rage and Crysis 2, this just might be a  wake up call for the developers. The signs are clear - you may get the numbers with consoles, but the PC is where hardcore gamers are at.
