As January approaches, all eyes are set on Apple to unveil the second generation iPad. Rumor mills are abuzz with all possible updates about the next iPad. Japanese Mac oriented blog MacOtakara cited an anonymous Chinese source stated that the next iPad would be 3mm smaller but its screen size will remain the same. On other hand, Jimmy Lin, Taiwanese Pop star posed with a smaller tablet and called it iPad Mini.

Every Apple product has an annual cycle which means a hardware and/or design refresh every year. The iPad was launched last year in January and it's about a year, but the tablet isn't being made available in many countries including India. Now MacOtakara was tipped by a Chinese source that the second generation iPad will have the same 9.7-inch touchscreen display. The second generation iPad measures 239x186mm and is 3mm smaller than the current one.

As DigiTimes reported, Apple's second generation iPad 2 would be manufactured by Foxconn and would be available from February 2011. The iPad 2, as the blog cites, will have speakers on the back panel, which will be as flat as the iPod touch.

In a separate rumor, Akihabara News site spotted photo of Jimmy Lin holding two tablets in which he referred smaller one as his new toy iPad mini. Lin had put up this photo at the Chinese Micro-blogging service account. The tablet appears to have a 7-inch screen size and obviously makes us doubt if it is legit.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs had recently described 7-inch tablets as dead on arrival at the Apple Earnings call, reported Wired. Hence forget that Apple would be coming out with smaller version of iPad. Apple would've come up with 7-inch tablet if they felt it was a good size.

Let's wait and see what Apple has in store for us next month besides the upcoming Mac App Store.

Nonsense, you can have 6 items on iPad "dashboard" without jailbreaking. Do you even own an iPad?
