DC Universe Online is slated to be released on the PC as well as the PS3. However, it's more significant for the latter, since it'll be the very first MMORPG on the PS3.
The wait is finally over. DC Universe Online has gone gold, which means it's ready for replication and shipped to store shelves. The release date has been confirmed for January 11, 2011 for US and Europe, and January 14 for Australia. DC Universe Online is basically City of Heroes with official DC roster, where you get to don your cape as either a hero or a villain in a persistent online world.
DC universe Online will retail for $49.99 (Rs. 2,250 approx.) and the PS3 version will cost $59.99 (Rs. 2,700 approx.). The retail versions on both platforms feature 30-day "free" subscription, which if you ask me, is quite a shameless term to use after charging 60 whole bucks. Thereafter, the MMO will adopt a monthly subscription fee of $15 (Rs. 675 approx.). PC gamers are given an option of a long term commitment by paying $199 (Rs. 9,000 approx.) for a lifetime subscription. PS3 users get no such option.
Anyone who complains about a monthly fee for a good MMO is quite simply an idiot. You silly console fanboys shell out $60 for a game that takes 8 hours to complete and maybe offers another 20-30 hours of online play if you are lucky. If this game is done correctly and by all indications it will easily be as successful as COH you could easily get a few hundred hours of game play out of this title. So please by all means all you noobs stay away you obviously have no idea what you are missing and the rest of us veterans would love to keep it that way. So keep buying that new title for $60 every month while I shell out my $15.00 for the next four months and really enjoy the game while playing more and spending less than you morons.
so wait....you can't even buy the game to play it unless you pay a monthly fee?
So in other words you HAVE TO pay?...that's lame..
I bought a ps3 specifically for this game...sigh, now I gotta apply for a credit card just to play it. great.
I don't think any game could get me to pay a monthly subscription fee to continue to play it. $60 upfront and then I have to pay every month. Good luck with that
First MMORPG on PS3? Really? What happened to all the Japanese rpg crossovers like White Knight Chronicles?
Also, I have been playing the PS3 beta and find the game to be rather clunky and poorly designed for a game that is going to charge a monthly access as well. Game gets a C- based on beta PS3 play.
So 60 bucks for the standard game on ps3 then 15 bucks a month and no lifetime membership?.....gotta say it would only be 180 dollars for 12 months which all in all isn't to bad if your a hardcore gamer. For those who don't have time in a week to play a game for a few hrs then this game not for u. Other than that I will be buying this game each n every month and will see u villains on the battlefield.
"since it'll be the very first MMORPG on the PS3. "
It would be more correct to say, it's the first MMORPG made for the PS3.
FFXI worked on the first generation PS3s, and technically was the first MMORPG playable on the PS3.
