Nokia and Microsoft are rumored to be in talks to create new Windows Phone 7 lineup

We were shocked, as you might now, when we first got to know of it. As if Verizon's CDMA friendly iPhone wasn't shocking enough, Nokia is reported to be in talks with Microsoft. Both companies had closed door talks over working on Nokia branded Windows Phone 7 devices. Eldar Murtazin, ex-Nokia fan and now an Android blogger, noted on Mobile Review that talks took place last month between Nokia and Microsoft. Back in Septenber, rumors about Nokia working on Windows Phone were rife, but the Finnish handset maker denied of any such developments.

Nokia last month took charge of Symbian platform development entirely after Symbian Foundation announced to turn into a licensing body. And earlier this month, Nokia China's senior manager Gunther Kottzieper, at IMIC Presentation shared plans of introducing dual-core CPU bearing smartphones. And with the new scoop about Nokia-Microsoft's behind the door talks makes it a bit interesting.

Murtazin reported that Nokia-Microsoft talked about creating a new line of Windows Phone to be sold under Nokia's brand name and will have some typical Nokia features. Quite possible that Nokia will work on dual-core CPU based smartphone that will run Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 mobile OS.

Currently Nokia is working on development of Symbian and Meego mobile platforms. Adding Windows Phone 7 would not only require more work force but also dedicated resources to comply with Microsoft' s Windows Phone 7 standards. No further details were shared on the same, which makes it clear that these talks might still be premature.

The Nokia-Microsoft partnership could be a sober indication of Google Android's popularity. Both companies are kind of kneeling down now to join forces against Android, BlackBerry and iOS. Just in case the talks between the two companies materialize, we may hear the news about the same at Consumer Electronics Show 2011 next month or Mobile World Congress 2011 in February. We have our eyes and ears open.

My guess to this story.... Well Nokia has two marvelous OS in it's arsenal, it only needs some more polishing and shining before they are kept i their sheath phones. And concerning this article, I have no issues seeing this simplified heavy weight OS from MS being used in Nokia handsets. The only thing to be seen is the same as per the article, the CES '11 or MWC '11.

When an ex-Nokia Exec before leaving Nokia's HQ denounced the use of Android platform in Nokia, the first thing that I thought of was exactly this "WP7 for Nokia" as it seems like a perfect match. This'll indeed be a hit - the only issue is with Nokia taking decisions on time because what seems correct now may not seem so a year later. Wake up Nokia and take the plunge with WP7.
