Toshiba has been a veteran manufacturer of notebook hard drives for notebooks for a long time and it also has portable hard drives. As is the case with Toshiba products, simplicity and functionality are given prime importance, and the case is the same with its Canvio series of portable hard drives, of which we have received a 500GB model for review. The drive has a simple yet elegant design and the 2.5-inch hard drive inside has got free-fall sensor for added protection for your data. We tested this drive and got some interesting results.

Most portable drive makers do not provide any software disc these days, instead opting to put the software on the drive itself. While this is not such a bad idea, there is a chance of ignorant users accidentally deleting the software from the drive without backing it up. So you can also download the software from the website.

I think the comparison can be made by taking a look at the reviews of the competing products right here on this website. My suggestion to the author or copy editor is to incorporate those links in this review. I can already see one of the links in the Related Links section below this review. But overall, a very thorough review.

When you review an item and its perfromance, we expect direct comparisions with the competetion. So, you should have mentioned the features and performance of Seagate and WD drives on 500GB, and not just the price. How can I decide how good or bad an item is without that information. Hence, how do I now take an informed decision to purchase ?
