Four different models available for Adam tablet running Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Notion Ink's Adam tablet, the famous Apple iPad rival that was shown last year, is now available for pre-order from the official website. The comparison of Adam with iPad won't stop even when the tablet is available widely. The official Notion Ink website - http://www.notionink.com/order.php hosts four different Adam tablet variants ranging from $375.33 (Rs. 16,970 approx.) to $550 (Rs. 24,860 approx). The pre-orders are open to all.
Notion Ink's ambitious Adam tablet has been praised heavily for its amazing hardware features as well as the Android Operating System that it runs. In terms of hardware, Adam tablet houses dual-core Cortex A9 ARM architecture based NVIDIA Tegra 250 System on Chip with ULP GPU. Packing a 1GB DDR2 RAM with 1GB Single Level Cell memory, it promises faster write speeds at lower power consumption. Adam will also offer 8GB or higher Flash storage on board.
Featuring a 10.1-inch WSVGA (1024x600) LCD display, Adam will also come with an option of models with Pixel Qi displays with transmissive, transflective and reflective mode. For protection against dust and scratches, the Adam tablet will come with scratch and fingerprint resistant coating. The screen will also come with anti-glare coating that will prevent straining your eyes if you plan to use the tablet for prolonged hours.
Other hardware features of Adam include 3-Axis Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, GPS, Digital Compass, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WLAN 802.11 b/g/n, 3.2 megapixel autofocus swiveling camera, built-in microphone, stereo loudspeakers and 3.5mm audio port. For connections, the Adam offers two USB 2.0 ports, min USB port, HDMI and Mini SD card slot.
In terms of software, Adam will sport Eden interface that would comprise best of both worlds - Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Rohan Shravan, Notion Ink CEO, noted on the official company blog that Adam runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and comes with Honeycomb support. Adam promises better OpenGL graphics support, good multi-touch keyboard and better copy-paste features.
Shravan clarified that though Adam will run Gingerbread, it doesn't have a Near-field Communication chip. However, he did tout a mystery feature that will unlock something new in the tablet every fortnight.
Following at the four Adam tablet models available for pre-order:
Backlit LCD, WiFi only for $375.33
Backlit LCD, WiFi+3G for $425.33
Pixel Qi LCD, WiFi only for $499.45 (sold out)
Pixel Qi LCD, WiFi+3G for $549.99 (sold out)
If you just want to use one tablet casually not exhaustively, then the Blacklit LCD with Wi-Fi option looks pretty promising as compared to other Indian offerings like OlivePad or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Looks good... But it resembles a laptop more than a tablet...
It will not be good decision to pre-order this ADAM tablet from an inexperienced manufacturer..
Sure the product will come out good and perfect in future..
Well, I was able to book fine on 10th at 3 am. I'll be getting mine on 9th Jan.
If you know "family members" got the priority for the pre-order with a special link, which was working from 00.00 till 6 am,after that the pre-order opened for the all. You can only pre-order the LCD version now as pixel-qi versions are sold out. But that might be a good thing, as you might be able to buy it in stores in Feb-Mar for much less price, for only $550. As we early birds had to pay $600 which came to Rs. 29999/- for the top model.
Well well...techtree took notice and posted some important news about Notion Ink Adam but a bit late.
