STD calls to be charged as much as the local calls
The ever exploding era of mobile phones has put fixed landline phones on the back seat. Not anymore. BSNL has announced that it has trimmed down STD call rates from its landline phones. Starting today, the STD calls by BSNL landline subscribers to any other fixed line phones would be charged as much as local calls. This means you can call any landline phone in the country from your BSNL fixed line phone at local call charges, regardless of the tariff plan you are on. Details of the tariffs are listed here.
Currently, the local calls on any BSNL tariff plan cost somewhere between 0.80 paise - Rs. 1.20 for three minutes. Now, the same rates would be applicable for landline-to-landline STD calls in India.
The best part about this price slashing is that BSNL customers need not apply or register separately to avail this benefit. MTNL informed The Economic Times that a similar price slash is in the pipeline for MTNL landline subscribers while private operators like Airtel, Tata and Reliance are considering similar scheme for their fixed line costumers.
Now since the STD rates have gone down, there might be good usage of the landline phones across India. However, do keep a tab on your bill.
